Hi all,
I normally inhabit the sparks forum, but I have a heating problem at home that I'm looking for help with. Be kind and gentle:eek:!

Boiler is approx 11 years old, never mised a beat. It's operated by a Danfoss programmer, cylinder stat and room stat, bog standard heating & hot water set up.

Problem I have is that intermitently, when heating and/or hot water is called for, the fan in the boiler kicks in as it should, but the boiler does not fire. This can happen at or during programed on-call times, or if say I want to give the hot water a boost outwith programmed times. At other times the boiler fires as normal - no apparent link as to when the problem appears or not.

Pump appears to be ok as does the cylinder stat. The duo valve also appears to be working. I'm stumped - can anyone offer asistance/advice?

Many thanks.

Hi gas man. I could fib and say within the last twelve months, but without checking its probably nearer 2 years - I know, I know, annual service! I will get it done, but I'm intersted in understanding likely/possible causes. I won't consider attemping any work on the boiler itself!

get it serviced first could be nothing more sinister than blocked venturies or split aps tubing ,then go from there fans and aps switches are weak on this boiler ,case seals are also prone to falling apart they are not dear so ask the gsr to price a new one up

Thanks fo the prompt responses, I'll do what you suggest. Bye the bye, are parts for this boiler still readily available? I'm not against spending what's required, but I'm dreading the day when I have to replace it - I hear too many horror stories about condensing boilers!

Thanks again.

yes parts are easy to get,but your gsr engineer will have to identify the boiler as parts changed a fair bit on this one over the years

Don't believe everything you hear. If fitted correctly there is nothing wrong with condensing boilers.

if it does die dont buy a ideal condenser, the classic was ok but then they brought out the icos and isar which are tat

Thanks guys. If the old boiler (no, not that one!) has to go to the big scrapheap in the sky, I'll be back here for advice on a replacement.

Must agree thier the classic in its various model states was the last boiler that Ideal made that was good.
Lets see how the logic performs over the next few years
