I honestly thought I was getting the hang of understanding switches and electrics. I really need a good book to help me get it once and for all

Same here, I'm shyte with electrics :lol:.
Need to do some courses as my old boy isn't going to be around forever.

Yep then when calling it swings to a b . The Live and neutral terminals are completely independent as no links shown. If you wanted a switched like u put a link from l to a then when it's calling live ends up at c

And this is how I found the stat wired when I arrived. In the picture I drew. The top one. So do you believe that this has caused the pcb to be knackered?

So, I am getting to grips with electrics.

Yep probs killed pcb! Are were fast blow fuses blown? They are usually clear glass ones inside pcb case? There are two spare ones inside on black rubber tee minimal guard?
 
I didn't look at clear fuses. I just checked thermister and diverter valve. I assumed it was the pcb until I called technical and she said the stat wasn't volt free. So had me 2nd guessing myself
