Ideal imax 45 faults

Hi,

Has anyone experienced faulty modules in their Imax boilers?

I have two boilers working in sequence and I'm on my fourth replacement module in two years.

Is this a common weakness in their design?

Other than that pcbs do fail. But I've only ever replaced 1 on a IMAX

Hi Simon,

The symptons are that the dispay unit at the front of the boiler dies. Rendering the boiler useless. All the units were replaced on a sale and refund basis, should Ideal find and report a fault.
Surprise, surprise we are still waiting for a response from Ideal. And these units are £300 a pop.
Our instalers were Smethwick Heating and Engineering Services Ltd. (SHECo) who recommended these boilers. They are also perplexed. Meanwhile our nursing home remains vulnerable.

ive been to several ideal boiler break downs over the last couple of years including the wall hung imax condensing boilers(think it was faulty pcb and sensor on the 100kw model) on one occasion i removed the outer and inner cases to find the aluminium alloy burner assembly had melted, and dripped down heat exchanger like candle wax! i promtly called ideal to warn the of potential fire hazards and got told it must have been correctly re-assembled after the last serve...... it was previously serviced by an ideal engineer.ive stopped using ideal due to the amount of break downs, i think its down to poor quality components. good commercial boiler brands i install now are buderus, veissman, vaillant, and now worchester are bringing out a 45, 60, 80, and a 100kw boiler.

The IMAX is the only ideal I like

I look after many of them. I can strip and work on them quite well. But the biggest problem I have had with one is heat exchanger being choked up

Fans are a comman fault too

On a service it is vital the burner is washed also

the old ideal viceroy was a good quality industrial boiler but as previously stated i feel the components in the new ideals are shocking quality.i dont think you can go wrong with buderus or veismann commercial boilers, they both offer complete kits including LLH kits, controls, cascade rigs fluing options and their product portfolios are both massive so you are able to source all required from one manufacturer rather than making sure one makers parts work with an others.
