Hi guy's - looking for some help before British Gas come visit Tuesday and potentially sha*t me!

My boiler has decided to give up on me this weekend. I have read the manual regarding the error message I keep receiving (LF). Currently the boiler appears to have 3 attempts to hold an ignition to fire up but then cuts out.

From what I have read this could either potentially be an electrode fault or PCB. British Gas have given me a fee of £130 per repair and seem to think these 2 things are interlinked so I won't have to pay for both.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and got this resolved.

Appreciate any help in advance :)

thats a fair price to repair, when they do fix it,sign up to there breakdown cover, because they are rubbish boilers, parts are very expensive

as above says! i just replaced the diverter valve on one, a month later pcb, a month later fan assembly, 6 weeks later the actuator. nearly a grand in spares. could of out them in a nice quinta for that, what a useless boiler (imho) and what a waste of money. didnt make me look good either which is more important than the cost of spares. wont fault find them anymore!!

Ironically I had just signed up to their homecare service a week ago but because a fault has appeared before the 14 day setup I am unable to use the cover.

The best option has been to cancel that, pay the fee and then I will re-sign up to the plan.

Thanks for your help.

9 times out of 10 it just needs a service for an f/l fault, but if the service engineer only does one thing to your boiler make sure he removes and cleans the condense trap!! aluminium h/exchangers have major problems with condense traps unless they are aluminium/silicone.

I agree. Most people who have isar's dont get them serviced, most problems can be solved if serviced correctly ie

*remove fan/burner check insulation panels + replace burner earth pins.
*remove trap clean sump poor water in sump make sure clear.
*replace detection probe & ignition probe or check spark gap's etc.
*heat exchanger is cast iron so while burner off poor warm water through hex clears most debris.

All or most of these ive listed never get done when engineers service isar.

By doing these checks can eliminate most LF problems.

Did you mean cast aluminium ?

hi,an LF fault on this is flame failure so pos bent electrode or spark gen as long as theres gas,it could also lock out on LF If the condensate is blocked or frozen, but as im sure your aware these boilers are cr*p :)

fbatchelor83.. if you think you're being shafted by BG why on earth are you going with them???? LF is anything from electrodes thru PCB down to blocked sump / condensate trap. Just sit and analyse your flow diagram in your booklet, it's stupifying. I hate those boilers.. save yourself heartache and money...bin it!!

Yes sorry my bad !

Other things I come across are also

*water in gas valve ( comes down white tube )
*incorrect gas inlet pressure's
*faulty flue seals
*failed spark generator's
*incorrect gas valve offsett should be -0.01 mb anything above or in a possitive pressure, gas valve needs to be changed.

cheers

Yes quite agree to all your service points. I hated being sent to 3 of these in a row. Sometimes I found the orange dot on the front indicating the coathangers had been fited but on inspection the lazy torag had just stuck a dot on.

Every one has to be checked, so I tooled up for geting that awkward back right rhingy bob out.

One day I found this!

Yes mate your right, everytime on a service and on a breakdown we have to inspect inside the combustion area so its burner off all the time.

I have seen that loads of time's too were the combustion panels have broken in 2 and or just fallen over because of burner earth pins not getting replaced.

Its then a nice heat exchanger replacement NICE !!!!!
