Hard bits shatter and soft ones wear away. IMHO shattering is safer as the soft ones do generate a lot of swarf which is worse than wire wool. We tend to do a lot of our own plastering so use these things intensively for drywalls. Drywalls are phillips but most other screws are posi. A phillips bit will drive a posi ok but not the other way around. With a soft posi bit on a phillips screw you will generate a swarf stream that can at worst take your eye out and at best ruin your chances with the missus on a "special " night

ive been recomending impact drivers on here for ages mines mostly clipping and light weight stuff so only use the straight bit holders and cheap bits just change them often, they are great with socket drivers for putting up rads with the 10 mm euro fixings and i even have a socket for the plug and vents on rads

I've thought about a impact driver, but have mad do with the cordless. Are the Dewalt drivers any good as most of my gear is by them.

I've bit the bullet today and ordered a milwaukee impact driver. Wish I had it today for putting up some stud walls.

18 or 12v? My 18 barely leaves the van these days, the 12v is so good.

Dewalt are good. I always have two just in case of failure over the weekend. I have the old fashioned type with the heavy batteries. Not normally a problem except with drywalls and a large ceiling.
