as my qyuestion is regarding prices/ money thought best ping this here,

Been doing an alteration of a one pipe system in a school which is iron from half inch to inch half all threaded plus all required bracketry.

my question is should i crank up my hourly rate when doing iron as not sure if there is a shortfall of people wanting to take jobs like this on, i cant ever get anyone to help as always get the 'i dont do iron ' speach .

obviously bigger companies do this type of work but one man bands like myself seem to be rare to take on jobs like this

coppper monkeys seem to be in abundance and as i have not given a price for this would you guys class this as more specialist and ramp up the rate???

If there's a demand and your the only man for the job it's stacked in your favour. Surely a big company would charge more than your "ramped up rate"

Most schools if they are LEA ones will require anything from £10 to 20 million liabilty cover from you, watch yer arse or you could lose your house when working for schools and offices! Most private schools would want similar insurance cover on your work as well.

i work with 10 million offices require min 5 million with 12 month liability but thats irrelevant from question asked

I do charge more for doing iron work. Mainly because the cost of hiring a bender, threding machine and stand vice have to be lost somewhere.

Love doing iron. When I was an apprentice spent 2 years doing inch and half steam and condense pipe.

just checking coz i was a bursar once, all I know is plumbers charged a fortune for any lea work.

naw, just that you can get caught out badly but if your not charging enough, then it is above your pay grade :)
