makes you think, the same would apply to filters on the return and pump valves on the flow hmmmmmmmm :D

I would say it is very debatable whether or not it could be classed as AR def not to current standards. If house owner closed both valves off ??

im not very experienced with open vent. Do you think i could bung the fe tank and exp to create a lock, long enough to change it?
Or wouldnt it even be possible?

it would but you will still have water in so unless your using 4 compression joints just drain down, but did you do the job on your own or was your mentor with you?

Did it on my own but it was my first heat only (ive have passedacs ) so i asked him if there's anything i need to know or do. He said put the full bore isolation valves on the two pipes above boiler and obviously a drain cock.

To be honest since ive passed hes been a bit funny when i ask him for his advice, answers phone " advice line £50 a question" ! He actually wired it up for me as there were 4 wires not 3 and im not going to mess with wires this early on. He told me it was an "ok" job

on the boiler you mean if so very easy you have your normal l n e and then just a switch live (eg boiler fire)

Yeah it actually filled really well i was surprised how easy it went

drain down but close all rad valves first saves you adding inhibitor but if you have a spare bottle lob it in

Yeah that must be what was there, he has always kept wiring away from me.... Annoyed about it now mind, im going on wiring course in new year. Its not that difficult i just dont want to fry a new boiler! (I got BIG electric shock when younger so still have inner fear/respect for electricity)
So i guess he just did away with the live (perm) and just used switched live , n e?

Brill, yes ill do that, thanks mate. Glad you guys are here i felt a bit lost when he started getting funny with me. He hates it when im busy and gets all weird about it!

yes some boilers will run like that normally stated in mis (normally the ones without a lcd screen ;) )

Y Plan Wiring.jpg

study these and you will be fine and any questions remember the only stupid one is the one you dont ask

Personally I bung most of my OV jobs. At most only loose a few liters from system.
If S-plan its a doddle. If Y-plan bit more difficult to get an air-lock.

no valves on the route to cold feed or open vent ever potetial disaster waiting to happen the way thats been done

Yep no way are you allowed those valves there... Shut em both & Fire the boiler & it's a bomb lol, you can't compress water, and it expands when heated... Like when people capped old back boilers by mistake & the customer lit the fire years later!! Anyone remember that story?

This is why no heat only boilers have iso on them...

It only takes a customer to have a leaking from the bathroom & they will shut every valve they can see!!
