hi we have just purchased a 1930's house and have a few issues regarding water pressure and flow. basically you can only use one tap or apliance ie. washing machine at a time if you use anything else there is almost no flow. same thing happens when you run both the hot and cold taps together. the propery has had a fairly recent combi boiler installed before we moved in could this have something to do with the poor flow? i suspected it may be a supply issue or maby the pipe from the meter to the house but the water board has been out and checked flow and the meter and the first tap after the stop valve. thay claim that we are recieving 4bar pressure and 14-16 ltrs a min flow which they say is more than enough so what it the problem? any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers nicro they did come out and said there end is fine 14-16 ltrs a min and 4bar? 4 bar seems excessive to me could this indicate a blocked pipe from the main?

I think your best bet would be to consult with a local plumber, remembering that there should be no call out charge, as he would be only looking. Any problems come back here.

4 bar is relatively high but not uncommen I come across 6 bar now and then , are you sure the internal stopcock is fully open. Remember your combi will only heat so much water at a time the more hot water outlets you open at one time will.deminish the flow rate. It may sound silly bt are all cold outlets of the mains, the old water tank is defenitly gone ?

yea the internal stopcock is fully open and the backed off 1/4 of a turn. i have checked in the loft and the old airing cupboard and cant find the original water tank so im fairly sure its all straight off the mains. from chatting to the people who live next door they had to replace the iron supply pipe from the mains as it was badly corroded and limescaled up inside

I don't think so, if we went out to your property to investigate this we would be taking pressure readings & flow rates from more than just the one tap / meter & checking pipework, we would make a charge for this service, why would we ?? (of course the information we found would then be yours) We are not a charity, no call out indeed.

i dont operate like that looking costs nothing and good customer relations

But how far will you look before you charge/ give all the information required to the customer for nothing to let em have a go themselves or get someone else to do it then you've driven there taken your time to work it out and then driven to were ever your going next for nothing

Dave the minimum your water undertaker can legally supply you with is a very poor 6 L/m @ 1 Bar street side (10Meters) As a starting point have you asked your neighbours what their supplies are like, if similar then I am afraid it is just the vagaries of a combi on an old mains water system.
There are still things / systems you can do or have that will overcome this but it will cost.

I charge to fix not investigate. No wonder the public mistrusts
That is very harsh nicro3, wether my business model means I make a charge up front for the work I do & the skill I employ to investigate a problem or you choose to put your cost for the investigation onto the repair work at the end of the day the customer pays for the service provided & they have no reason whats so ever to mistrust me. In fact they may say the mistrust may be the other way.
BTW nice van pack.

thank you all for you replys i have spoken my neighbour and he said that they suffered from low flow but then had the supply pipe from the mains replaced with plastic and now have brilliant water pressure they had there pipe replace about 6-7 years ago. i guess i will have to get a local plumber out to take a look. what sort of figure should i be looking at for some1 to investigate this? and are there any plumbers here from west sussex. also if it does turn out to be the supply pipe can i get a plumber to change it or does it have to be the water supplier as it atatches to there metre?
