Leaking hot tank

Hi, my hot water tank [copper] has a take off about 3/4 up, this supplies the hot water for the shower, i'm changing the shower to an electric one and in the next month or so changing the boiler to a combi and getting rid of the tanks, my problem is the hot water take off for the shower is leaking from the joint where it comes from the tank to the pipework can i remove the joint and seal the hole anyway for it to last a bit longer? You will have to part drain cylinder past joint and just remake joint as required,should last a long time once repaired,long enough for you to get round to replacing for combi over next ten years

be wary of dismantling an old essex joint, they are a big enough pain new, try tweaking it up gently first, or loosen it slightly ( having drained down past the joint) loads of jointing compound and tweak up otherwise drip tray and new boiler sooner rather than later
