Hi, i have recntly put in a new toilet and although there are no external leaks, ive noticed that water trickles in to the pan whilst the cistern is filling up.
It stops when the cistern is full?.

is this a faulty flush mechanism? ( large plastic tower in the cistern) or something else?

Any views gratefully received .

p.s. apologies if terminology is incorrect. By 'pan' i mean the pool of water where you do your 'business'

I would think that is is the residual water flowing from the rim until it has completely drained.

The rim is actually a hollow section to allow the flush to reach the front of the pan and it takes a bit of time to completely flow away.

I wouldn't worry about this, when a pan get a flush sometimes the trap never gets fully filled back up due to full level hydraulics going on in the soil pipes and drains, a lack of vents on the system and so one, any water tricking in after the flush will make sure the trap is filled after the water has settled down.

BTW it may be also as the head builds up in the cistern during the fill the seal gets better, I love the no need to fit an over flow now, I thought of this one when I was a lad, and they have been doing this in Europe for years, well for ever I think, we are slow to learn

sometimes there may be a small leak where the washer does not seal correctly, I fitted a lot of Ideal Standard Alto Pans and the washer was just big enough to seal, a few millimetres either way, and it would pass a small amount. If you want to be sure there is no leak best thing to do if allow the cistern to completely fill, then switch off the supply to it, and leave it. If the water level drops, then you know either the valve is passing or there is a leak.
