Hi,

First big mistake in 2 years :( Measured the bath today, once, twice and three times. Drilled tap holes then realised I had drilled them 16cm apart when I tried to fit the bath/shower mixer tap.

Is there a bath/shower mixer tap on the market with adjustable centres to fit 16cm holes? I really don't want to buy a new bath @ £500 retail :(

Yes, I know I'm an idiot.

im not sure if there is anything on the market with adjustable centres. did you not have a template for the tap centres

Hi, it was existing taps. I know I should have drilled holes 18cm apart - done it loads of times. Just had a stupid moment that may have just cost me £500 :(

Failing this is there anything on the market that will allow me to plumb in a shower over the bath with this arrangement? Don't have time to run new shower pipework as tiler is coming tomorrow AM now.

:(

Put the tiler off now coz hes gonna be more ****ed in the mornin.
what type of bath is it did you get it or was it provided by the customer?
is it a modern type bathroom or could you get away with the victorian style cranked stem taps

Hi all. Speaking to the customer on email now (luckily for me he has left me to crack on while he's out of the country for 5 weeks). I think I've got him to go for separate taps and a thermostatic mixer shower instead. A little bit of blagging on my part which I feel bad about tbh but today has been a rubbish day.

Clutch on van broke this morning, then drilled these holes wrong and finally dentist for a filling :(

Tiler knows the score to be honest, so he's going to do all apart from bath area tomorrow.

Definitely won't get away with Victorian taps but separates will work fine. Hopefully it's sorted, easy enough to plumb in a separate shower valve, will be better for the customer actually as we're installing a whole house shower pump too.

three bits of bad luck on one job the rest will be plain sailing then!!!!!

Hi Tamz, is the Aqualisa Aquamixa going to fit 16cm tap hole centres?

at least you've got him to change his mind on the taps. got out of a HOLE there...sorry couldnt help it.
everyone has days like these in the trade were in.
when things like this happen i find if i just call it a day and come back in the morning i am a lot more focused and work through the problem

Harsh but fair Kirk.

I feel your pain mate. We all cock up at some point, its called human error. When they can make robots to do our job and never put a foot wrong, we'll all be out of a job....think it may be a while.

what was your mistake 2 years ago, must of been a bad one to remember.
from what i can remember my last one was when a powerflush hose came off in the living room, black water up the walls curtains and carpet. good times
it only went up the curtain and walls because i grabbed it and chucked it out the patio door like i was holding a poisonous snake.

Yeah, what was the last mistake, and does this take gold, silver or bronze?

Last mistake I made was letting the apprentice fit the rad valves while I went to another job. He's scratched 50% of the rads, by not putting any protection down as he flipped em over. Taking them to be recoated tommorow. That's going to cost me £500 plus the time I lose. Oh and for all those who love a dig at them; he's a fast tracker!! About as useful as a chocolate teapot, and its going to be back to basics tommorow for him....like making tea and sweeping up.

Last big mistake I made was cutting the tails on a concealed thermostatic shower valve too short. The valve was behind about 2 grands worth of tiles. I felt like crying. Called my Dad and he managed to get me out of the scrape, by putting a coupling and a peice of pipe on the tails. Heating the pipes until red hot. The heat travelled down the pipe and we pulled the tails out. Then quickly pushed in a tinned, fluxed replacement and added a bit more solder. Worked perfectly. My Pappa - hero!

while i was busy ragging the powerflush hose out the door the customer was just sitting there watching me. god knows what he was thinking

Probably thinking he was going to get a free powerflush, and new carpet N curtains.

i forgot to close of the drain off once. went up into the loft to fill up came down stairs to a swampy laminate front room floor.

thats the point about the mistakes we make, we remember them for ever and learn from them, all the good jobs, the good earners are vaguely remembered, but the stinkers, the ones we fooked up on, the ones we grossly under priced NEVER leave us, and to a point that is a good thing

Yeah, we all make mistakes. This is like confession, only the whole world can see it, and not just the local priest.

never did find out what happened. i was working for a company so
phoned the manager said ive got a problem that needs sorting, finished off the job and said my manager would be round. he did say they would get a professional cleaner round though.

oh well onwards and upwards

here you go then:
If your Dad is a hard working man, and is your hero, has helped you no matter how good or bad you were and is just the best dad ever, if you are blessed to still have your dad or if he is a legend with angels in heaven, paste this to your status and let everyone know you are proud of your dad. You can replace a lot of people in life.. but you only have one dad!!Love my dad heaps
