something tells me you need to check if its still sending a live to the boiler.
which will be in the wiring centre box where all the wiring gos.
 
Okay, i'll get my electrician to check that - he has checked the wiring a few weeks ago and couldn't find anything untoward. Would that be down to faulty zone valve wiring then?

electricians and heating systems never seem to go together.

something tells me a bad connection.

can you not remove the cover and see if the wires loose.
 
Ha ha, electricians any any trade don't go together!! I'll have to check it in the morning cos the kids are asleep now and the baby will no doubt wake up if I start making a noise next to his room - will let you know.

I've checked the wires at the zone valve and there are no loose connections - this morning when I switched the HW on at the controller the boiler fired but went out after about 15 seconds (water was luke warm at the time)...
