Meter box and pipework

Had a look at a job today where new gas pipe is to be run through the property . Outside on the wall it has a semi recessed meter box and customer wants gas pipe to go through rear off thd box so no pipe showing outside.
Didnt the rules change on this couple years ago?

In what sense? Afaik gsiur mentions meter boxes. Technical bulletin 040 mentions sleeving.

Thought i read somewhere that you cant take a pipe through rear of meter box anymore.

I was also under the impression you was no longer allowed to go through the back of the meter box.

Ah, that's maybe where I've got that rule from then but just applied it to all installations.
