Mixer shower inlets

My mixer shower connections in the wall have Hot to the left, Cold to the right. My Triton mixer bar has been mounted upside down to comply with the Triton inlet instructions. which means that the sprayhead hose is on the top. Is this a problem ? How important is it which way round the inlets are connected ?

It is very important to get it correct.

Your triton surely requires hot in the left?

If you have in fact got hot on right, it is fine to have the mixer valve upside down - that will work fine.

Sorry, got mixed (no pun intended) up there. My hot connection is on the right, cold on the left. I'll mount it upside down. Thanks for the advice.

Check if you can buy a reversed cartridge for the shower. Then you can fit it correctly.

In my experience when a reversed cartridge is available it is massively expensive.

Although some (I think Mira 415) you can just flip the cartridge over - good design.

The original mixer fitted by the builder when the house was new (37 years ago) was a Mira. It lasted 29 years. As the connectionsin the wall are reversed to the standard, I suspect that the Mira had the cartridges reversed as Ben-gee suggests. The Mira was replaced by a Triton Luca 8 years ago which has now siezed up and leaks at the temp control end. As the Triton 5 yr warranty has expired, I'm replacing it with a like for like Triton Benito.

One more question, there are some hard plastic washers supplied with the Triton Benito. The bar mixer bracket instructions mention them as a 'plastic seal' but the shower bar instructions are a bit vague about what are the seals between the bar inlets and the wall fittings. In my experience, hard plastic doesn't seal as well as softer rubber. I asked Triton if these are the correct seals and they gave a cautious yes. I assume this is correct as obviously this is a crucial joint ?

If this is a 3/4” seal; I would replace them with a pair of “appliance washers with filter mesh” - these are for washing machines etc but are the correct size and seal well
