Hi all I hope someone can help!

about 3 weeks ago I came home to find water leaking from the ceiling in my sons bedroom. It was dripping down the light fitting.

husband and father in law went into the loft and said the problem was the ball cock ( hope that's right) in the water tank. It wasn't telling the tank to stop filling up and so it overflowed.

Tank was drained to empty, ball cock was replaced, leak stopped but now whenever the hot water is run we have a loud noise that can be heard in the pipes, immersion tank and tank in the loft. When I first heard it I thought it was a very low flying plane outside to I've you an idea of the noise. It goes on for about 2 minutes after the water is tuned off then stops.

husband reckons its meant to make that noise but surely he's wrong!?

sounds like theres too much pressure for the ballcock to shut off, change the seating to a high pressure one or adjust stopcock to slow water to ballcock

pipework not clipped properly coupled with stop tap turned up too high after turning it off possibly try turning stop tapdown a bit

Had this problem last week on a cistern , noisy when flushed, (presumed it was a split washer) so fitted a new part 1 ballvalve , call back next day ,noise was getting worse, replaced with a part 2 ballvalve, problem solved, the plastic piston in a part 1 ballvalve vibrates as the ballvalve closes in high pressure location so i was told!!!
