Bloody RCD trips when I turn heat or hot water on. I know it's not the boiler or pump cos I've just been out unplugging them both.

it'll be a session with the multimeter when I get home later, after a quick jerry rig with an extension lead and plug in time clock.

I'll lay money on it being the cable between the junction box and the boiler enclosure.

Good luck croppie. Just remember that the best way to check if a circuit is live is to have your helper do it.

Got a nice shock last week

Isolated ,removed fuse but did not do that final check and got me punk rock hair do back !!

Thought maybe fuse spare faulty,so some bright spark, thought would wire through but was ok when wired correctly

And then some ask why we prefer plug and socket

Any way ,How you get sorted Croppie :)

Be looking at it tonight, gotta take her shopping first..

Electrical fault finding with the aid of added beer. If you hear of any explosions out Portadown way don't worry too much.... I'm sure I'll be able to explain everything!

god you were lucky there puddle , bought meself a fluke volt stick £38 after a similar experience were they,ed wired the shower in the the live side on the main fuse boardi so was never dead

croppie is there a bit of water gettin in somewere, with all this damp and bad weather

I have the same Fluke volt stick and never start a job without it. Think it has saved my life twice. Good things to have. I knew an old crusty sparky that used the wet finger test. Craziest geezer I ever met.

S plan with an oil fired warmflow. Boiler and pump sit at the end of the garden Dan. You're right Dusty, it'll probably be water somewhere.

I've not long been back from having my wallet raped and plundered so got me meter out and had a butcher's. I was right, short between phase and earth. Got the valves manually opened now and an extension lead and timeclock in use for the time being. Been called into work tomorrow so Thursday I'll do a better temporary rewire untill there's better weather and I can get running a proper bit of armoured cable around the garden.

The cowboy's who built this place just ran a length of 1mm twin and earth!

Could've been worse I suppose!

Does the finger really need to be wet! I've had some belts in my days and always with perfectly dry hands!

The volt sticks are good, but not completely reliable. When the batteries go they can not sound, anyway, I used to use mine all the time. Now I use a multimeter.

Our boiler packed up over Christmas, think I mentioned it in another thread.

A cobbler never mends his old boots. Haven't serviced our boiler for a long time! The water in the F & E tank was as black as coal!! LOL I will sort it in the spring.
