My son just called back to an outside tap at the bottom of the garden of a customer fitted 5 months ago so fully exposed to the outside incl the snow we had and it had started leaking and on removing the thread had broken up..customer refused to pay for new tap or cost of fitting saying it was his fault
i know its only a 5 pound tap plus labour time and diesel but on a principle is it worth threatening small claims court
to me a outside tap exposed to the ice will def have frozen at the end of the garden and expanded and then contracted quite a lot??
i know its a small amount but he also fitted a toilet for someone and got a can we seand the cheque as my husband has the chq book and of course no chq and no sign of anyone at house so my guess is they were a tenant who had broken the toilet and had to get it fixed

unfortunately as well as your tools, you also need to keep your lawyers suit in your van nowadays.Take the outside tap as learning step, write a stern letter to the client with the broken toilet.
With the age of the computer and printer it is not hard to knock up very offficial looking works orders or even small contracts on headed paper for people to sign prior to doing jobs. For me anything above £300 is signed and sealed before lawyers suit removed and boiler suit put on. good luck

Why did your son fit the new tap knowing that it was going to freeze?
Maybe he should have stated to the customer that it will freeze and is not suitable and that any damage as a result that your son would not be liable? Can't he remove the tap if they are out, he could get in trouble, but they would have to prove it.

woman said she wanted it there for watering that end of garden..he is still a bit naive i would have told her that as no payment made tap was still my property and removed it and left her with a tapless fully flowing pipe at the end of garden

tell her u are calling to collect your tap.

take the tap back, tell her it has sentimental value, then rub excrement all on her face, and tell her your having some mental issues. works everytime for me.lol
