can anyone help ! as you would have guessed im a painter and not a plumber and i have a problem with a shower pump. several months ago i had a grundfos nile 1.5 pump fitted and all worked well for a month or so until it started to leak, it looked as if the body casing was being eaten at one end ? weird i know ! i took it back to the plumber merchant who moaned and said i should have left it in situe and phoned grundfos but eventually changed it. i fitted the new one and the same thing happened ! grunfos charged me £100 call out and told me it was "cross contamination" ??? what ever that means [ i think it means b++++++s and thanks for the money] before i spend more hard earned money can anyone shed any light on my prob ?

c charged me £100 call out and told me it was "cross contamination" ??? what ever that means

Well if he said cross contamination and you do not under stand what was ment ,why did you not ask him to explain as you passed over the £100,he saw the set up not us ,so he would have an advantage
Ring them up,give your job ref or address and ask for detailed explanation, presume not covered or replaced
Does pump assist hot and cold or just one, what is it pumping, were is the hot and cold supplied from, was hot if pumped correct temp

thanks for your reply puddle. i was at work when the guy came to look at the pump, by the way i had to pay up front for their 'expertise advise'. as i explained im no plumber so i will try to give you what info i know. there is a direct feed from the hot water tank to the pump, and from what i can make out the cold feed is independant ? the pump is only supplying the over bath shower. how do i check wether the temp is correct as i think after looking at other problems on this site this maybe the problem. thanks again for your help.

should be able to control hot water temp by thermostat on cylinder
Are we saying only hot pumped ?....single impeller ,if so this is would explain cross contamination bit

hi puddle, just checked the thermostat on cylinder and its set at '10' ? sorry to sound thick but not sure what you mean by 'hot pumped or single impeler' can you explain, thanks.

you have a old cylinder thermostat, can not remember temp as regard no scale
,would recommed replacing with temp settings you want to be between 60' and 65 ' as any higher can damage seals on pump or impeller

Was asking if hot and cold are both run through pump or just hot

only had new cylinder fitted 3 years ago ? both hot and cold run through pump if thats any help ?
