If you use WD40 the solvent evaporates and leaves a dry lubricant that won't come off. I use and abuse my slices and rarely find them tracking. Only ever strip and clean them when the rollers jam and fit new wheels when the old ones stop cutting or get chipped. Only slice I've had trouble with tracking is the plastic 28mm one and that tracks if you don't put enough pressure on.
 
A complaint which may as old as the hills...
