never done cast irons before. Is there anything special about them? One of them is a 70kg one which comes in 2 halves. They just take standard valves, 1/2" no?

No will be 3/4 unless they've been changed

And whose putting them together/ leak testing

If it's the old style you need special tools

New or reconditioned jay plan your pipework if running on the surface they could be 3/4 BSP tappings but a 3/4×1/2 black iron bush will sort that as shaun said you will need specialist tools for the older style rads fixing can be tricky if they are wall mounted with no legs good luck bud cheers kop.

I refitted 2 of these bad boys. After another heating engineer that removed them went AWOL. There is a place up north that I would recommend that reconditions them and puts them together. I would tell you the name if I could find the bloody paperwork for them. (Let me know if you want it and I will have a look) nothing special about them just really heavy and awkward to move (but pretty to look at) so make sure you have an extra pair of hands around. Mine were going onto iron pipework so a bit more tricky with the black iron adaptors. You will be well pleased with yourself once you have done them.

Apparently the company that sold them are giving them the tool to connect the two halves.
I'll pick up a couple of 3/4 to 1/2 bushes in the morning.

Iron not brass would be best

And I would leak test them first once there made up and on the wall

No idea if new or reconditioned. I'm hoping they have feet!!

I'm on my own Havrest, lol, but I'll manage. No choice but to really haha

Yup. Am hoping my local plumbs have them. How are the 2 halves of the 70k rad joined then?

Edited my last post some are screwed together some are just pressed together

I take it there are no middle feet then :/ I don't have anyone else, unless the guy is going to be in to help.

You need two people they flex like crazy and can crack / split

I would rather say no to the job if there's not going to be someone strong helping you

lol I'm doing three of the beggars tomorrow. 2 aren't as big and don't need putting together. What's the best compound to use on iron fittings? I was gonna use loctite thread and jetblue?

Stag part b
Boss white

Put them together before on the wall

For your sake I hope there alu

Some do some don't depends on length

Just watched a vid online of how to put together. I reckon the rads will be new. The end caps look like inch thick?

End caps you mean plugs ??

Remember get some pics once there all plumbed up

15mm pipes no farty 10mm

Chrome pipe ??

Absolutely 15mm - not chrome as it's a temporary connection until they redo the flooring which will then all be hidden
