I am having trouble with my Avus Architekt Thermostatic Bar Shower, in that when I try to increase the temperature 1) it isn't hot enough 2) the pressure drops significantly and the pump seems struggle.

It has been plumbed in correctly, with the recommended width pipework, and I have tried adjusting the thermostat to rectify the temp problem but it seems to make the pump struggle more. I have been told by a plumber that if a pump is fitted the ratio shouldn't be a problem, but there could be an issue with the return valves, if the shower has them. Can anybody suggest 1) where I might find the return valves 2) offer a practical solution to my dilemma.

I have been in contact with plumbworld for over a year in regard to this issue, and have found them totally unhelpful They have finally sent a replacement but I am having the same problems. I have recently found out that I can only communicate with customer service and they don't have technical info.

Thanks

Well lets put the replacement shower in first,as you have been given one and see if problem is corrected, could be shower cartridge not letting hot through
while doing change over check any filters in union joints
how old is shower, what make of pump do you have, non return valves would be on shower inlets and on pump bot unless debre stuck in them would not think cause of fault

Hi
Thanks for replying. I have installed new shower and all joints, valves have been checked for debris and are clear. The original shower was 18 months old, and the plumbing was fitted at the same time. Although we've had problems with the shower since new. I've had another plumber check the pipework and it's all fitted correctly.

The pump is a Watermill Twin Impeller Shower pump.

Well personally I would maybe isolate shower and remove shower bar only 2 min job then turn water back on and check hot and cold coming through outlet pipework ok and cold on the right, thus seeing if problem with bar or pipework, however if you have replace bar once already would think problem in pipework or pump, any gate valves on system, these may seem open but could be stuck in closed,is hot water getting to hot coming from cylinder affecting operation of pump
Mentioned about pump,as some makes, their plastic impellors get damaged on the hot side and just spin round shaft, not had thias with wind mill and if siduation from new, would not think this
IMHO

Hi again
We have removed the shower and checked the pump, both outlets are fine and the pressure is strong and equal on both the hot and cold.

I'm wondering about trying a better brand, but want to rule out the pipework first.

Well if hot water temp correct around 65' it would point to bar mixer, strange that two have same problen though, you have checked the filters, usually in joint connecting bar to wall nuts, however if hot excessive temp could cause inner cartridge to lock out hot
The bar is of standard quality,so replacing for other make should not make that much differance at this stage

Thanks for your help. I'll get the valves checked again, and double check the temp of hot water cylinder, but I think it's at 60.

Shame you're not local, otherwise I'd pay you to fix it:)
