Hi all,

Hope you can help with the following issue.

I am finding that my pump is continually running and does not switch off.

Here is a summary:

1. Heating working fine using time clock and wireless room thermostat.
2. Boiler switching on and off correctly
3. Hot water permanently switched off at the time clock
4. Heating comes on in the morning gets up to temp and switches off correctly, however - Pump continues to run constantly (I am aware of the pump overrun - approx 5 mins on my system)

How I can manually override the problem:

If I turn up the temperature on the cylinder thermostat (Baring in mind the hot water is turned off at the time clock) I hear a click and the three port diverter valve moves, I then wait a few seconds and then turn the temperature right down and a hear another click. After doing this the pump runs for the overrun time and then switches off correctly.

Should this happen with the hot water switched off?
Is the cylinder thermostat my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need to sit there at the wiring centre with a multi meter and work out whats going on, something is playing up and probably needs to be replaced.

Could be a loose connection or a fault on the 3 port valve may even be the programmer. Without testing it, its pure speculation.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. Should have said, I have had the programmer and the 3 port valve replaced in the last week. Could it be the Cylinder thermostat?

Who replaced it?

Was it like for like on the programmer?

Did whoever did it read the instructions?

Sounds like a wiring issue, get the plumber back to have a look. If its a diy job read the instructions on the programmer.

Programmer replaced by an electrician - Job was done to try and fix the pump problem, had same problem with the original programmer which had been fine for years. Looks like I need to get the electrician back.

Not all electricians are 100% with wiring heating systems, not critising sparks at all but it is a fact, just like not all plumbers are capable on every aspect of there trade.

If the problem is still persisting after changing the valve and programmer, you haven't found the cause of the problem and all your doing is replacing parts hoping to come across the problem.

I'd get the sparks back failing that a good heating engineer.

you need to get someone in who knows what they are doing, sparks are not heating engineers

sounds to me like the pump may be controlled by the printed circuit board, could be a pcb problem and nothing to do with the mid pos valve or the programmer.
