Went to look at a job last night where it is was a recessed box with the gas pipe going through the spigot but someone had teed in and then drilled through the back of the meter box. It was all sleeved and sealed but I presume it is A.R as the meter box has been compromised.

Also do they do a recessed meter box where you can come out of the bottom right hand side? The one there didn't have a tap in but I'm sure others do.
Thanks

define no no maybe contact gas supplier and find out if they want to make an issue of it in the worst case they can fit a new box and charge £700 for de commissioning the supply and re establishing it

If its sealed why is the meter box compromised?
Meter boxes are not air tight.
The regs are to stop any leak at the gas meter possibly leaking and collecting in the cavity of the property.

the way i read it sounds like someone has drilled an extra hole in the back (might be wrong tho)

if so ar

recessed boxes arnt meant to be drilled in any way there masticed to a building the rules as to what you can and cant do are clear tamz is quite right in the real world nothing happens but if your unlucky they make an example of it

If its sleeved and sealed it is not AR. I see that many in my travels.
It would only be AR if was corrupt and potentially gas could escape through rear of box.
Just note meter box had additional holes made for pipework but sealed.

Shaun that is exactly what has happened. Had one the other day where gas board refused to connect supply because the box had been screwed in by the builder.

I'm altering all the internal gas pipes anyway so will get a new box fitted just to cover myself really.
