The boilers instructions should tell you where they want, I always put it on the boiler return, the preesure vessel manufactures prefer this as it is a lower temp than the flow.

i'm not touching the boiler, it's an unvented cylinder, going in place of an open vented cylinder, the cylinder mi show it on the flow.

Do you have unvented ticket??

I have not fitted one of those, but I prefer to fit to the return, as there are no valves between the cylinder and boiler, so if there is a problem with the boiler over heating it will expand up the return,

your not touching the boiler? why do you need to install an extra exp vessel to it then? did you calculate the system volume?

nice reply to somebody willing to post a reply and try and help, you worded the post like you dont know what you are doing hence the questions.

just be careful and make sure the boiler is suitable for the conversion to sealed system and follow manufactures instructions and you should have no problems.

hence my question above

is the boiler suitable for a pressurised system? becasuse you can still connect a open vented heating system with a s plan to a unvented cylinder it would just be the hot water thats pressurised and the expansion vessel on the cold mains.

if you read the m.i. for the gledhill indirect,it asks for the exspansion on the flow.....omg!...jeffD.

If thats what the m.i says then put it on the flow but 9 times out of 10 your ex vessell goes on the return the negative side , anyway if you'v got the m.i why are you asking people where to put it. Maybe call a heating engineer

HMM, I am a bit worried as if you have unvented certificate, you should be a "competent person" meaning you are competent to install a unvented appliance, now if you are not competent in fitting a unvented cylinder what has gone wrong? was it the course you went on or is it you?

just out of curiosity did you do the unvented as part of the NVQ3 or did you do it seperately?

Was it fast track or was it at college?
