Saw this today for the first time. Apparently we have been selling them for ages! :) I had never seen it before.

Its a cross between a self-cutting tap and a DOC. The idea is that it is a temporary fix to allow you to drain down when there are no DOCs fitted - once drained you take it out, replace the bit of pipe that you have cut into, and fit a proper DOC so that the next plumber doesn't have the same problem.

Clever idea, or just another gadget that will haunt the van?

Unhappy with the product, well I mean I didn't get the packet of sweets when I travelled and picked mine
up yesterday !

Looks a good product tho! I can guarantee I wont need to use it for months , so looks like a very good lucky charm to have in the tool bag.

Kev.

Thanks Ray.

I've mentioned how handy these things can be in the plumbing tips section. Handy, Though I have punched through a hole and lost the copper disc in the past. So perhaps practise it on a cut section of pipe?

I will buy one in 22mm (they are available on the net). Handy to divert a mains, and to check a frozen pipe plug has formed.

hi ray used the drain off today on a flat that had no drain points .was very inpressed - there was a little drible of water when the drain off is screwed in to cut the pipe but not much once fully cut it seals well. the device worked realy well - the hole in the cutter a little small which makes draining down a little longer but not much.was able to then to cut out the hole and fit a tee and normal drainoff for future.i all we need now is a 22m version.great little piece of kit

many thanks ant

I want one of the 22mm ones, a nice way to cut into a pipe that you hope is isolated with your freezing equipment but can't be sure.

My current method is to drill a 6mm hole. If it's still live, put a screw with a few turns of PTFE into the hole. But the above would be better.
