Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and have a problem. In my rented flat I have a Worcester 24i boiler which supplies my hot water.

When I run the hot water from the taps in the kitchen sink, bathroom sink or bath the water runs hot, but not scalding.

When I pull up the nozzle on the shower mixer tap the temperature of the hot water runs to a dangerously hot/scalding temperature. I discovered this one morning when half asleep. I had to leap out of the bath as the water burnt my chest. I am not kidding when I say that the water is hot enough to make tea with.

There are a couple of other things that may have some bearing on this.

1) The hot water pressure in the bath mixer tap is considerably weaker than the cold. When I tried to reduce the temperature of the shower when I turned the cold water tap on, even a millimetre the, the cold takes over and the shower water runs completely cold. However when I mix the hot and cold through the bath tap I can get some kind of blend between the hot and the cold.

2) When the central heating is on the hot water runs RED HOT and scalding like it does in the shower.

Any ideas what could be the problem? I am hesitant to call out a plumber as I am living on a very tight budget. The landlord (although strictly speaking has a responsibility) doesn't want to know and I am afraid, the way things are in the rental market, I would rather try and sort a boiler/shower issue out myself than kick up a fuss and have to find another flat. It was very difficult to begin with.

Would like to sort this as having a bath every morning, though not a great hardship, is not as speedy as a shower would be.

Any help/pointers/advice would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Hi there and welcome to the forum, it sounds like your mixer shower might be gone allowing the cold water to pass back through the hot, even when not in use,,,,a non return valve on the hot would fix this , or put one on both feeds , hot and cold,
