Hi all,

im having trouble with my solid fuel system.

Its been repiped twice (as upstairs rads weren't connected to the pump)and secondly repiped at the stove to try and stop the back boiler kettling before the pump had a chance to kick in.

I've lit the fire last night and the kettling is still a problem. There is a fairly long (2-3 metres of almost horizontal piperun from the stove to the HW cylinder-i know!we didnt fit it!)could anyone recommend any particular settings on the flow/return pipe stats? I currently can only have the flow on 40-45degrees as any higher the back boiler kettles very badly

the system fires 7 rads and gravity hot water so obviously the settings are quite important as we are off grid and have no heating/hot water without the system

many thanks

Sounds a mess. Needs looking at from somebody who both knows what they are doing and with experience of these systems.

What size stove to water and room?

Four pipes coming off?

What size pipes?

Where does the heat leak come from? Hope all rads now not pumped!

Metal f&e tank?

Metal overflow?

As above. From your previous postings this appears to be an on going problem. Gravity circulation to DHW cylinder with horizontal pipework needed the gravity circulation to upstairs rads to promote flow and create heat sink. At least one upstairs rad with 1.5 Kw output should be gravity fed with 28mm pipework coming vertically from stove.

What area are you in
Maybe a member is close and could look at it

It is literally doing my nut in now.its a HA property.its being bodged everytime.

stove is around 13kw-10 to water 3 room. 4 pipes all running from stove across to HW Cylinder. bottom two 28mm pipes top two 23? all rads seem to be pumped

no heat sink straight up,bottom stove pipes run to high/low stats top two seem to be connected to rads?one to pump not sure about the other.
two tanks in loft, smaller one is plastic not sure about other.

appreciate any advice on this, cant bear another winter with dodgy heating/hot water

am in cornwall by the way

thankyou, will get onto it yet again on monday

once the system is hot it works fine (apart from the hw),but im in a situation where im having to coax the pump into circulating at only 40degrees and it takes hours to heat the water up. the stove manual recommends 85high stat and 45 return,at present their on 45, 35. if i were to put the high stat on 85 the back boiler is screaming until the pump kicks in

last time the stove end was repiped he swapped two of the pipes round coming out of the stove and said this would help push the water around a bit more and stop the kettling.its made no difference :(
