My parents are both still alive, 86& 88 worked forever, never got anything without having to work for it, thus, they don't qualify for a grant.

**** isn't it. It seems that things only benefit those that don't try for themselves.

It's just utterly wrong. It's always those that work hard that miss out. I think if someone in need genuinely needs financial help re heating their house or making it more efficient the fair enough but assess it on a case by case basis. And for gods sake don't let landlords manipulate the system by moving tenants around to suit their greedy needs its a typical big company cover up. As long as they're getting paid then they don't give a toss

I was on the understanding that it was the energy companies paying for them? Not the government. I thought the government made the energy companies help those that could not help them selves.

Quoted fro a boiler replacement last week. Two days later, landlord tells me: ''N Power have confirmed she can have it replaced for free'' but there is a 10week wait. Her tenants were not prepared to wait that long, so I replaced the boiler.

Oh FFS I shouldn't of got her boiler going!

Thanks for cheering me up even more! Lol.

Its effectively the same thing Millsy.

Neither the government nor the utility companies have a hidden pot of money. The former get money from taxpayers and the latter from people paying utility bills. They are essentially the same people, but if the scheme is run by the utility companies, the headline tax rate doesnt go up, and some (very naive) people think that the money comes from rich energy companies, when actually they just add it to their costs, and charge it back to you and me. In any event, the energy companies are mostly owned by pension funds, so if it isn't you picking up the tab, its your granny.

Its a feckin' scandal.

Lol.

Getting her boiler going was not the issue? Apart from not working, there were THREE major issues with the boiler.
- 3m horizontal flue falling away from boiler
- Signs of spillage at flue turret
- Combustion chamber seals broken in various places.
It is my suspicion that someone else had ID'd the boiler but were hoping to get someone else to sort it out

Is there anything like this that the small company can get involved in?

Yes, MCS and the Green deal, but be prepared to jump through a lot of hoops.

Thats how the big companies protect themselves. During the consultation process, under the cloak or "upholding quality and avoiding cowboys", they introduce a whole load of paperwork, which is ok for them with big admin departments, but puts off the smaller tradesmen.

When MCS first came out, MickW (our chairman, and the man behind the original boiler scrappage scheme) campaigned like feck to reduce the paperwork mountain, but no-one wanted to know, and the larger companies actively campaigned for more paperwork.

Cheers Ray, that was my understanding too so I guess there's nothing really for the average plebs like me. Still can't understand why there's nothing like a monopolies issue with the whole set up

That's pretty much what I thought it was.

I'm an average pleb and we are Green Deal and MCS.

You've just got to be prepared to put the work in to be fair. If you take your time reading up you can cut a lot of the useless crap out and manage it in a way that suits a small business.

To be honest, you can't expect to run on schemes like this by scribling notes down on empty coffee cups in your van, it's all about recording and having systems in place to manage certain situations.

Green Deal has a lot more useless stuff you can't avoid, but I wouldn't bother with it anyway, not much to get out of it now, except;

ECO2 (the free boilers) is preferencing off grid technologies from April so there won't be any money in the gas boilers, that will disappear fairly swiftly I would imagine. Not sure how the figures will stack up on the off grid stuff though, nothing has been announced yet.

No matter how much you hate it, it's there. You can either take your chances and try and benefit of it, or not. There are far more corrupt schemes occurring as we talk so I'd sooner know about this one and try and make a few quid while I'm at it!

Good answer. Cheers nostrum. I'm very interested in learning about bio mass as I've had 3-4 custs in the last 6 weeks call about. I live right on an urban/rural border and get frustrated when I can't suggest an answer.

I would recommend the HETAS H005 biomass training course. I did mine about 3 years ago but at the time it was very informative, probably the best training course I have ever been on.

I agree with nostrum. I do Eco boilers. Don't have anyone else doing the paperwork. It's just getting your head round it and doing it right.
we all remember Ega group, now that was a con going on for years which only big companies could get involved with. But now small companies can do the grant work, most are moaning?

Not only are we losing out on jobs - through taxation we are also paying for these feluckers to have it for free lol.

About £1000 I'd say, I know it's an expense for just a made up qualification that has no meaning but that's what you need.

Is there anywhere I can have a look at how to do it and what's involved?

It's a bugger though as I could of done with that install as I've just found out how much my van is going to cost and that would of helped massively.

It depends what you count as the expense. Training, tools and equipment, accreditation do add up to be honest. That's not the schemes fault though, it's stuff you need to complete the job properly.
