A mate of mine empties his tools off, and leaves it unlocked! He reckons it's better not to have to pay for new locks.

The temptation to leave a 240 volt tool with live fault to casing would be too great.
 
If you haven't got a sign-written van get some of those magnetic signs made up saying Delicious Sandwiches And Drinks Delivered or Colin's Curtains and bung them on when not using.

Mine was sign written. Then i took it all off. Prefer it off

My birds old man does exactly that and funny enough a few year ago the street he lives in had a spate of vehicle break ins .
His was the only vehicle that they broke into and was undamaged, yet the coppers were adamant saying he should have locked it !!
