I have been doing a Plumbing course for a few weeks now and i need to start building my tools up so i have what i need, iv got the basics like adjustable spanners, pipe benders/cutters, saws etc but i would like to know if anyone could really help me out with a list of what i would really need so i can put them all in order and buy as i have the cash really, i need stuff so i can go and do a job and then be paid and put that into buying more stuff

if anyone could help me out with either websites with good lists of tools or if anyone has the time to just sit and write exactly what i might need for every aspect of the basic plumbing job including power tools, hand tools and other stuff i might need

if you can help me out i would be seriously greatful, i just dont want to advertise to mates that i will jobs and not have correct tools to do it all when i get there

thanks

Had to change a 25mm stopcock live at a farm last summer. It was in an outbuilding so water spray wasn't an issue. Put on some trunks and flip flops like I was off down the beach. Got soaking wet, water everywhere and everyone had a laugh. Fortunately it was a baking hot day!
we did one like that a few years ago i got the apprentis to try getting the valve on but i shut the valve before giving it to him watched him strugle and get very wet before craftily opening the valve and slipping it on myself
top tip if doing a stopcock change live in the ground is let to hole fill till its over the valve then you dont get sprayed

I'd definitely second that one AWHeating (push fit stop ends). Also useful when there's a dribble because a valve/tap isn't working properly (which I think is what you were suggesting?!!!)

Decent adjustable spanners, blow torch and pump pliers are a must as you'll use these on just about every job.

If starting out, while it's tempting to buy everything you can think of and afford you could easily spend too much money and not use some tools. I have duplicates of some things, for example tape measures and pencils as I seem to put these down and not see them again for 1/2 hour.

One of my best items (and commented on by customers and other tradesmen) is my box of screwdrivers. Loads of them and various attachments. It was an AA box for a Christmas present I bought for someone but kept it myself! Only £10.99!!

I like my wee bosch electric screwdriver, I use that all the time rather than an actual screwdriver, its not too fast so doesnt rape the screw heads its a nice speed and you can get weight behind it

a small selection of push fit cap ends for when you cut into the wrong pipe AGAIN! lol

haha yeah i always remember them now, i learned that on training so i ended up carrying a 15 and 22 on me so if i needed them, a mate of mine who was on a job ended up slicing half his finger off when stopping the water with his thumb, he remembered he had a stop end in his bag but it was about 1ft too far from his reach, he was lucky he was near the stop tap and a tap to empty the system down

i have the robyi 1 combi drill, sds, and circular saw the only one i would buy again is the combi drill the saw does not have enough power, the sds is ok but eats the bats and still lacks in power a bit for the same money you can get a get corded ones that are better. i am in the same boat building tools i was lucky in a way i ended up suing my ex boss and won :) so ended up with a lump sum to buy tools and a vauxhall combo which will do untill i start getting steady money in also means i can use the van on school run cheaper on fuel and free advertising
