Went to look at problem with heating system this morning. Just had new unvented cylinder and all new rads fitted but decided to keep the ideal mexico boiler. The unvented cylinder has been connected to the gravity flow and return and sure enough its not heating up. There's also a problem with no flow on the heating system, pretty sure its down to a nrv.

Tried explaining to the landlord that it needs to be converted to fully pumped and could do with a new boiler for it all to work properly. His response "I spoke to ariston and they said theres nothing wrong with it heated from gravity" So I spoke to ariston who confirmed that the landlord is a plonker.

Why have all that work done and not get it done properly? LL reckons guy is coming to sign off cylinder this afternoon :bomb:

I will stay well clear as LL is asking for day rates and what not.

You won't get a modern un-vented unit to work on gravity like you say it needs to be pumped, the coil inside is only a short piece of coiled up 22 mm tube.

Jog on! I always fit glass lined unvented cylinder to an uncontrolled heat supply. 3G ?

Will never work as the coil is lower than the connections. And how is it controlled.?

if its being fitted on gravity its prob not got a tprv and will blow the roof off the property. You have to feel sorry for the tennant, i would never feel sorry for a plonker landlord.

First thing I checked was all the safety devices, surprisingly it was all fine and fitted to regs. Tenant in legal dispute over it, she wants to leave the contract, which is understandable when she's paying about £3/4k a month in rent.

Condemn it, note it all & stick a big Warning Dangerous Do Not Use label on the cylinder & boiler & walk away.

Why's plumbing got so complex, it was never like this, what's happened to my trade, I would rather stack shelves in Tesco, you can't fart now without it been in triplicate!

That Landlord is talking out of his bottom that Ariston have told him thats ok! There is no way that tank will ever heat because the coil is far too restrictive and will never circulate. Has the zone valve been fitted as part of the safety controls.

As soon as someone tells me how to do my job or blatantly lies to me I won't touch the job. If won't be the first time a cust has tried to tell me the manufacturer has said something is ok. Before they even finish speak rubbish phone is in my hand and with a "really what was the name of the idiot so I can call him!"
