Okay, so coincidentally, the two quotes I've had in so far for a replacement combi have happened to have been Worcester approved fitters, but I'm not ruling out other makes, just have to potentially find recommended approved fitters. So far, the general feel of it seems to be £2100-2300 for a 28-30kw combi with filter & rf thermostat (not bothered if it's hardwired, just seems to be not much more with worcester and extra functionality so seems daft not to get rf with that make!), so is it likely to be about the same ballpark figure whichever I choose?

I know it'll be ten people, ten opinions, but on the basis that these three seem to be giving ten year warranties which'll give peace of mind to the average punter, which make would you go for if you were picking around a roughly 25-30kw combi??

Also, are there any catches, like you have to have a horrendously expensive annual service by the Pope himself to validate the warranty??

I would go with Worcester, simply for the after care...

The pope himself could service your boiler annually & it could run purely on sentinel x100 inhibitor & as clean as mineral water but vaillant would still try & wriggle out of a warranty claim ;)

or go for intergas and have a boiler that doesnt have the parts that breakdown in a worcester

You guys! :)

One thing that seems to come up occasionally from what I've read is that the internals are better being stainless steel due to the condensates acidity. Probably got that slightly wrong but you will know what I mean... so do those or most boiler's nowadays have stainless steel where it's needed or is it something to be wary of with certain makes/models??

Worcesters are alu
Intergas are alu
Ideal are alu
Viessmann are stainless steel
Atag are stainless steel

And Vaillant?

Basically, it's not a concern then. I presume those materials used run throughout their respective ranges and not just the top level models?

Not 100% as don't fit them but think there plastic and stainless steel

Vaillant are stainless steel, but like most stainless steel Spiral heat exchangers they are more prone to sludge upsetting the boiler, iv done a couple recently that had to be powerflushed to restore flow through the boiler, they kettle like crazy!

I know all boilers are low water content, but I don't think the spiral hex helps!

Plumber I work with who is too busy to fit but is handy for a chat says that all three are good makes, with Ideal just probably being slightly cheaper, so I'm leaning towards Worcester with Ideal coming in second, but how come Worcester seem to be seen as the top dog on here in general: reputation, reliability, ease to work on, sheer sales figures...??

I have now started fitting bosch not because of quality more for the back up which is simply second to none.
Bosch rant the best boilers tho .

Just very good advertising on Worcester Boilers, that's why most people ask about them, Like any modern boiler you can get a good one or a bad one, over the years I've known people that have had so called very bad boilers and never had any major problems with them ! On the other hand I've also come across top of the tree boilers that have given nothing but trouble, So its is a gamble as to what you install, & the way it is installed, All have problems , all will brake down at some point, just because something has a 10 year warranty doesn't mean its going to be trouble free for 10 years, Someone has mentioned intergas very good boiler very little known about it in the uk, but worth considering , We all have our pet boilers, some installers seem stuck in the mud and are unwilling to try anything different, so constantly belittle other brands, What you pick to have installed is up to you, but don't be swayed by fancy advertising and glossy photos, all the information you need is there to read its down to you to do the research , whoever you ask will give you a different answer.

I should also add that as with many things how long your boiler lasts can depend on the quality of the install. Cleaning of the system, System design etc can have an impact

Final quote is off the bloke who normally maintains my boiler. He's suggesting an Ideal Logic+ despite being a Vaillant engineer as well cos he's not gone back to any with problems. Opinions?

Ideal get my vote, 7 year on the + and 10 for the vogue.

Unfortunately, I've found out Ideal suck balls due to the fact that you CANNOT use any water softener water anywhere in their boilers unless they're one of the couple of approved units, despite the hot water plate exchanger being made of stainless steel! Worcester have the same setup but don't have an issue with it as long as it's normal water used in the heating loop. Ideal invalidate the warranty if you do use a softener. Utter sloblock!!

Whichever you choose, just make sure it's flushed and a magnetic filter is fitted. If you have hard water then get a scale reducer. I'm a Vaillant Engineere and 95% of faults are because of system debris.

Heard there back up is shocking for warranty work. Worcester are out to the boiler and fix it within 24 hours, not that its needed very often.

Round here you get Joe Smith heating turn up a contractor who has drove down from somewhere 60 miles away. If you phone tonight he may get to you weds next week if your lucky.
I have slated Worcester many times before however you can't knock the back up .

I tried inter gas and basically got nowhere and the few i fitted i wasn't really that impressed felt a bit cheap tat .

I heard it was all contractors who don't always have the parts and have to wait for the manufacturer to send them out etc. Its the downside of a smaller company I guess.

Okay, so was pretty sold on a WB 30i but have since found out that the VOGUE has both stainless steel made exchangers, so the ridiculous water softener issue on the Logic+ can be circumvented. Only issue with the vogue is that the flow rate is a bit inbetween: my current boiler is 11.4@ 35 degrees,... the Vogue 26 is 10.4, the 32 is 13.1.

Genuinely, apart from cost, what's the downside to having an oversized boiler?? If I went for a Vogue, I feel it'd have to be the 32, but I have concerns that it's way oversized for a 2 bed/1 bath semi but I simply don't know what the disadvantages are apart from purchase cost, and two installers have simply said it's too big for what I need.

Any thought?! :(

The heating output will probably be the same on both the 26 and 32, its just the hot water that will be better. You will be fine with the 32
