This week my boiler failed giving an S.33 message "Check air/flue system" message. My plumber came around and identified the problem as a failed fan. I had my old fan handy (I replaced it 4 years ago due to it becoming noisey). He fitted that and all was well. However, when I next tried the boiler last night I had the same problem - fan not working.

I have tried to call the plumber and left a message but as it's weekend I am not sure I will hear from him until Monday. In the meantime I wondered if anyone had seen this before. Could the boiler be causing the fan to fail rendering it useless - maybe blowing something on the fan circuit board? It seems unlikely both fans have failed in the same manner due to age.

You need a gas engineer to have a look don't touch it yourself.

I wasn't thinking about touching it. As mentioned I've had a gas engineer out but obviously it didn't get fixed. If anyone has seen this sort of thing before and it is likely to be expensive to sort I need to start thinking about a new boiler. However, I thought that this model was one worth keeping going.

4 yrs isn't long for a fan, but you replaced it with a fan that you know is failing
Your plumber will know the checks to carry out to either confirm the 2nd fan is also dead, or the fault lies elsewhere
If he doesn't, get another who does

Cheers. My main concern was whether the boiler could actually blow something on the fan circuit board. I wouldn't want to buy a new fan for it then to go the same way as the other.

As you say 4 years is very early for a fan to fail. The other was just noisy. Yet both appear to have gone west.

A little pointless putting in a faulty fan, you could have now damaged the PCB, but some basic checks can work out what is wrong, Other option call out Vaillant on fixed price repair, if money is a problem you can pay them over the year (Monthly)

And that's all the info you're getting from us. Get an experienced, qualified gsr in.
