Hi Gang,

After some advice on the above fire please. I don't get to work on many fires, so I'm not too experienced.

The fire only comes on low flame, and doesn't ramp up all the way to high flame. Any ideas as to what the cause could be?

Thanks.

Off to look at this fire tonight, done a bit of research, and according to the web, they use a thermocouple, could this be a culprit as well? Struggling to find any MIs anywhere to 'pre-arm' myself.

The thermocouple holds the pilot flame. This has nothing to do with not going from low to high flame. If the fire is lit at all ignore the thermocouple.
First of all, did you check you are getting full gas and check BP?
Quite a basic fire this. Clean the injectors, burner etc.

As GrahamM says, check out the burner pressure 1st.

If it has a pillar tap isolation check that the internal screw hasn't wound itself down :)

Other probs as already mentioned, blocked injector/control valve?

Hi de hi,

Quick update for you. Went and had a look at fire earlier. It wasn't even staying on low, it wouldnt light, just stay lit while the pilot was pushed down. Took front of and the thermocouple was obviously knackered as the copper tube had virtually pulled all the way out of the head of it. Going back tomorrow to fit a new one.

Thanks to all that replied.

Further update, replaced the thermocouple, got the fire going lovely. Just had a text from custard saying the fire went out, and took them 8 attempts to relight....looks like I'll be going back there. Doh!

Check the pilot air port is clear of dust, flame strong not floppy! .... :)

Thanks will do, also need to check the flue for blockages too, after doing a bit of research on net, still can't find any MIs on net for love nor money!!!

As I mentioned previously, you may need to clean burner & injector. if The T/C is not getting a good flame heating it, it may be a bit erratic.
Another point is do not over-tighten the T/C into the control tap.
If you have new T/C and good flame and still having problems holding pilot, then the only other suspect it the Thermo-electric device in the control tap.

are you saying you did not do a flue flow and spillage after you changed the thermocouple?

Went back and did this today, all passed, cleaned burner as well, and all ok so far, thanks for all the input.
