Hi All,

I'm a student in my final year of a product design degree, for my final project I am designing a product/products that will help with tool security, looking specifically at the needs of trades people when going about their work and trying to provide security with minimal hassle/disruption.

I'm looking to talk to anyone about experiences they may have had with the theft of work tools or work vans etc.

Cheers,

Josh.

Maybe one of those paintball grenades with that special thief dye in it,It could go above the sliding door and the door at the back, wasted space. That goes off in your van if its broken in. I know it would go on your tools but would make it easier for police to catch scumbags if they looked like smurfs

I've had to Renault Traffic vans, never has anyone even tried to break in. Security as long as I lock the thing is pretty good. I have dead locks fitted as well, so so far so good.

Rhino tubes on top have not been so fortunate, the buggers ruined them and had my copper. Never lock tubes now , I cut coppper in 2 m legths and they go in the van.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for all your responses to my first post. All of the ideas and suggestions have definitely been a big help so far. I've put together a quick questionnaire which I would be very grateful if you guys would take a few minutes to fill out. It's anonymous and your responses will only be used for my project work.

Heres the link to the survey:
Van Security and Tool Theft Survey

Im also interested to hear your opinions about the L-BOXX stackable tool boxes and systainers. Are they any good?

Cheers,

Josh.

I have the best security system in the world, I bought my van off a pikey and its never been touched I dunno if there is a secret sign on it but no break ins, mind you the police follow me a lot!!!!

In South Africa, dangle a vultures talon or an owls talon on youre rear view mirror in full view.Put it this way, your odds of theft are lessened by the indiginous species.
A halfjack of brandy, laced with rat poison or similar, placed in the cubbyhole.......

I seem to recall that the South Afrikaners also invented a flame thrower that fired out from below the drivers and passenger doors to prevent car jackings, a bit easier to use than putting on a tyre neckless!!!!!
