Most likely a closed coupled toilet with a drop valve at fault imho. However check they dont have a resin regenerating water softener? Also check there appliances washing machine and dishwasher does the fridge have an ice maker or water chiller lots of things in homes have solenoid water valves now and these can cause strange noises when faulty or otherwise.

Strangely had this before where a slight vibrating noise could be heard especially atnight when its quieter. Turned out it was someone had left a light on in the loft and it had ever so slight vibration lol

Moral of story its not always plumbing

Hey guys, all good advice. Sadly, despite leaving several voicemails she has not got back to me about a revisit. Its a shame really, had she not insisted on following her friends advice I may have found the issue on the first visit instead of replacing a perfectly good float valve. Thanks for all the advice though chaps, will remember it for similar issues in the future.

Hate when you spend time thinking about a job for someone and research prices etc for them not even answer your calls. Boils my p!ss

Wouldn't worry about it R.Oak. The next headache job is only around the corner. I had a job were there was a suspected gas leak. Smell in offices above boiler house. Several calls to site later after women smelling gas intermittently. Looked in false ceiling. There it was a dead mouse giving off its odour.

I get that all the time. A few buildings on the Stormont estate are prefabbed.

"We've a smell of gas!"
"No you haven't. The gas line is the other end of the building. And it's all external. And I routinely tested it last week, it's tighter than a ducks chuff."
"What's that smell then?"
"Dunno. Corpse probably. Sign here........"
