This is an excellent site and it's very interesting to read in your intro about responses to some questions on the forum. I do understand the reason for not giving out information which might put people at risk but I admit I did get annoyed at the less than helpful attitude of one or two contributors, especially when seeking advice and I was accused by one regular of pretending to be my own 'qualified heating engineer'.
I run a business which requires an annual LPG inspection and at the last inspection I told the engineer we'd had the annoying problem of 'extinction pop' which regularly blew out the pilot light. After checking out a few of the usual possible causes he was honest enough to tell me that he didn't know what the solution was. However he said that if I could find the answer he would re-visit to install any new parts etc. I did eventually find the solution, but it came from outside this forum, from a heating specialist who was prepared to offer such advice and who obviously had lots of experience with boilers such as ours. It turned out to be a quick and simple fix, with no new parts needed, and the boiler has performed faultlessly since, so it didn't really need throwing away and replacing with a new one, which was, according to some, the only way forward. It will hopefully still be working well when some of the latest models are consigned to the scrap heap.
