Discuss Wet testing Pipework in the Gaining Plumbing Experience area at Plumbers Forums

in the case of first fix for a domestic house, you should only pump it up to worse case scenario ie 4 bar max for central heating because safety valve will lift at 3 bar, likewise for the plumbing. No need whatsoever to pump it up to the likes of 10 or 16 bar

we are talking about testing at 1st fix stage before any fixtures are connected. You must test plastic pipework to the pressure the manufacturers requires. Polypipe say the pressure it requires is needed to make the grab rings bite fully for example. who are we the humble plumber to argue with the designer of the product.

especially if its you taking the blame once the house is occupied

Plastic polyplumb fittings should be tested at 15 bar for 1 hour then dropped, then pumped up to 18 bar for 15 mins at which point things have expanded and iif are going to pop will do.
