what do you know about booby-trapped houses/jobs that you have attended?.

is it me or suddenly becomming much more common occurence.?.

you know the situation, turn up to do a little job like fit a new sink plug, only to find that the tap washers are gone, theres a leak on the tap-tails, trap has been dis-lodged etc.

the customer is looking vacant at you expecting you to offer to repair f.o.c because they were ok before you came into my house pal....:mad:

any obvious ones?.

already mentioned the trap and the yougrt cup.

Another time was in a house but this wasnt plumbing related, the bannister up the stairs was hanging on litrely by a couple of screws. Im sure every time i went up and down them stairs he was hoping i would put pressure on the bannister so it would come off and i would have to repair it.
luckily i noticed it on first visit.

The problem is if something is wrong with an appliance and doesn't work, we go into fix it but have never seen it working therefore you don't see the other issues or theres a DIYer and have cocked it up, we go in and put it right. One problem leading to another etc. Then, its a battle of wills with some customers. Some being damned unreasonable.

You get "how much, you estimated £XX" The only reply then is "I told you I had to replace 3 gate valves, drain the tank etc."

Yup , Knackered old lino in customers house which when I moved the w/machine I pulled out to get to the stopcock and it tore a 3 inch rip. Now she is claiming of my liability and have to pay the excess. Now I have t and c's in place removing my responsibility from indemnity through any such occurance. ;)

I attended a boiler breakdown last week and once i had repaired the boiler, replaced the gas valve, i ran the system so that i could check it was 100% right! I did every necessary check and was happy that the boiler was perfect 'ONLY' for the customer to call me back an hour later to say that her hot water tap in her en-suite was not switching off! I explained that this was not anything to do with my previous works in her property and that it was going to be chargeable, the young began to become very frustrated at the fact that she had just paid "£230" for a new gas valve and her hot tap was now not fully turning off! In the end i gave in and went back to the property just to keep the peace, i isolated the hot tap underneath the bath and told her to find a plumber to change the taps! she has since called me back as every body is to expensive only to find that i am booked up until nexy july!

i bet the insurance wont pay out on that as it would be repairable,

or is it classed as normall

wear & tear:D

Well this is the thing, indemnity means that it has to look like it did before the rip, hence a patched lino would'nt suffice ....typical

i've snagged loads of vinyl pulling w/m. never had a complaint yet unless its because i warn them first, cant remember. but at least a douzen over the years. sometimes i shove em back before they notice too.
