I am currently doing a plumbing course and am now looking to start to build up my tool box.

I would just like some ideas please on what tools are best for a plumber that is starting out.

Thanks in advance.

Alright Steve.

It depends on what sort of work you're going to be doing.

But here's a few that I'd consider....

Bahco adjustables
Pipeslices
Good screwdrivers (i prefer CK hd classic)
Rothenberger grips.
Footprint wrenches
Alan keys
Hammers
Hacksaws
Files

Good luck lad

Some good working clothes are a must

I've copied this from another thread - not the first list I've done either - loads of threads about tools. Anyways, here goes ...

Unlikely to need stilsons for first few jobs

Brain
Flexible arms
Strong, bendy fingers
etc

Pencil
Spirit Level
Measuring tape
Decent adjustable spanners
Decent pump pliers
Pipe cutters, 10mm, 15mm, 22mm, 28mm
Cordless drill
Electric drill
Screwdrivers
Stanley knife
Another pencil because you've lost the first one
Towels
Kitchen roll/blue roll
Pressure gauge
Bicycle pump
Hammer
Another flamin' pencil cos you've lost another
Pen
Smaller spirit level
Larger spirit level
Junior hacksaw
Circular saw or Multi PMF 180E
Another pencil cos the customer's puppy nicked the one you were just using
Saw
Another saw - one for cutting plastic pipe, one for wood
Torch
Gorilla bar
Chisels
PTFE tape
Loctite 55
La-Co Slictite
Working lamp
Multimeter
Wire wool
Flux
Solder
Blowtorch
Flux brush
Rag
Radiator keys

I got carried away here but most of these tools are used at least once a month - there are other threads covering this.

Great info by the looks of other posts within the forum!

Many thanks :D

Make sure you buy a qualty pencil and it will last a lifetime.
I still have the one i was given on the day i started in 1973. A good quality HB made of real wood. Not that plastic wood rubbish they do these days.

Pencils, there's another thing I never have. I do nothing but buy them though, all I can ever find is one 3 inches long that won't sharpen as all the lead just drops out.

I copied a lot of tools that my boss was and his son use..to the point that I have red tape on my things, his son has blue and unmarked kit is his.... think when you work with someone you'll be influenced by their choice of tools... bahco adjustables and bahco grips will always get a lot of use....nice mixed set of drivers (some electrical too)...
