Hi all,

I know I was way too low last time at £8 an hour which annoyed some people! You've probably seen our post looking for a plumber/bathroom installer. I am thinking £10-£12 per hour depending on skills, so £20,800 - £24,960 depending on experience and other skills related to bathroom installation??

What part of the country? What's the average wage being advertised?

None of the other vacancies on the JC+ Website state a wage. East Midlands, Lincoln.

I think if they're good they'll want to take home plus £500 p/wk, if just wet plumbing

Don't advertise a wage get people to apply and find out what they are after and what they are on now, you will get the ones who obviously are not on 50k a year but you will find out a rough wage. I would say plumbing only £10-£11 gas £11+

£11 for a GOOD plumber is nowhere near enough IMO. Agencies paying £14-15 p hr down here for monkeys

I'll stick my neck out at fear of being lambasted i wouldnt pay a wet plumber £500.00 a week on paye. I would however pay that if they could tile plaster and renovate bathrooms aswell. But then again darn sarth it may well totally different.

There is no right answer crofty. Advertise what you are happy to pay and see what happens. Depends what you are expecting them to achieve in a working week.

I agree with the tight northerner.

I'll stick my neck out even further, i dont think domestic wet plumbing is the skill it used to be unless you specialise in something no one else does. I cant comment on commercial as i dont do it.

Exactly. I was thinking more along the lines of something like wet rooms etc

Kieran just read your advert. Seriously with those benefits who ever you employ should count themselves lucky. Hope you get the right person

Well I disagree, I used to get around £17 per hour to install ducting, which is 4 nuts and bolts lol a good plumber who can do Installs to a high standard is worth a lot more than £10-11 IMO. But I agree the package you're offering in your ad Kieran is blinding IMO and for that sort of security and as you say around 25k per year many will bite your hand off

We can all disagree mate it aint a. Problem for me . But me and thee live in different worlds you live in hertfordshire i live in yorkshire. I reckon peoples expectation on wages may be slightly different to regional variability/ circumstances

loads of jobs next door croft offering £12-18ph

£12 sounds a good start imo

I live an hour north o Lincoln. Wages will be similar here.
Local company with 20 or so good plumbers pay between £11- 14 an hour depending on experience. They charge out at £30 + vat.
so I think your about right for the area.
if you were further south, you would get charged out at a higher rate, so could offer more.

It's a real shame the wages are low for a technical job! I had a young lad working for me part time to help out. He is getting £10 an hour picking products at a local sainsburys warehouse. With overtime pay and good shift allowance.
why bother getting your hands dirty!

Yeh agree different worlds etc but also seen some ads in london saying £8-10 per hour which I think is a disgrace. I think wage is just part of it you can get paid a lot but if you're working for a **** it wouldn't matter and likewise can get paid fair bit less but if you're happy and get treated better that's worth more than money sometimes

I think that there are many unskilled companies out there doing 'modern wet plumbing' i.e. plastic everywhere. Fitting copper pipe into houses and designing systems properly is still a skilled job imo, it's just that many companies are happy to use crap DIY products and pretend to customers they are skilled plumbers!

The skill is in doing a job that the customer likes and getting the customer to refer you on and not every company seems to be able to do that!

I would have thought about 25k a year would be fair for a good quality plumber, but unfamiliar with your area. As a guideline I have lots of friends on the cards with firms in south London as gas engineers. They are on about 120-150 a day with paid holiday, van etc etc.

£12 an hour for a plumber in Lincolnshire then should be about right. If I can get a plumber with good basic building skills as well such as being able to make boxing, plasterboarding and standard bathroom stuff I will be very happy at that price.

gizz a job

I would put 'price negotiable depending on experience' with good rates of pay to the right person.

You want someone to be attracted to working for your company because they can do the job rather than see the pound sign. Plus if you can only find someone with limited experience they won't feel hard done by when you offer a reduced rate, which could lead to them having a changed attitude.

I guess you'll know what they are worth in your business so offer accordingly.
