Discuss What would you do with this total tosspot? in the Plumbers Arms area at Plumbers Forums

This is exactly why sometimes I wish I was on someones books and didn't have to worry about sending out invoices. Whenever any customer asks to have a look at something or that there is something they dont like the sixths extra spider sense at the back of my head screams "they are wanting free work". Lately I have been extremely upfront with pricing and any incline of any work that wasn't part of the original work or isn't covered by my guarantee I tell the customer exactly that without any concern for their feelings, I would rather know straight away where we stand and go from there trudging in ambiguity without knowing if you will be paid for hours of your work is a horribile feeling. Worst case scenario they will demand your time free of charge but then again you take your chance of standing ground or risking reprisal on Google

I really need to start being stricter about this, way too often end up doing little extras for free that often end up being not so little.

Agree with the idea that this is a Franke issue. Customer cannot legitimately complain about the handles being close together as he chose the design, but other criticisms may be valid. Franke has told customer that the taps are faulty and not to their standard so if the new cartridges don't solve the drip problem, Franke has caused you hassle by agreeing they are faulty and now need to be spoken to discuss how to satisfy the customer without it being a disadvantage to you (i.e not doing free work) unless they are personally going to go and deal with your customer.

In fairness, most modern plumbing fittings are built to a price, but residual dripping for the cost of a Franke is something I'd probably agree is undesirable. As you supplied the taps, you so are responsible for their reasonable performance, even if the customer is being a tad picky, and he probably has consumer rights to reject the goods even though they have already been installed.

I wouldn't be blackmailed by a bad review on Google, nor has he threatened you with one anyway. Personally, I feel that with bad reviews it is pretty obvious where people are being unreasonable and I don't know how much weight a solitary bad review really carries anyway.

Would be interested to hear, has op got better at spotting those red flags? (And doing the right thing when red flags are noticed)
