whats in your toolbox

we are always being asked what tools do i need,so decided to remove all the pipe,rubbish etc out of my toolbox before going back in to work tomorrow this is just a basic day to day kit needed for a plumber/gas engineer thats without sds drills,bat drivers and all the other stuff we use,its a expensive profession

I've got differnet toolboxes for different jobs, got my service toolbox with screwdriver, manometre, grips, spanners, LDF etc in and a box for installs with cutters etc in. Anything else I need is all stored in the van and I know where everything is so it takes less time to find.
One of the best things I have got is my tool wrap that has a few screwdrivers a small pair of grips, a selection of fuses and various bits and bobs I need to take a boiler etc apart to have a look. I use this on breakdowns and have it in my hand when I knock on the door. Its amazing how many times I can complete a job only using this tool wrap and not need to go back to the van to collect soemthing else.

my tool box weighed a bloody ton, was probably not far off 30 kg. Now I have 2 large boxes, a small tool box for a handful of tools and a small bag. I mostly use the small bag.

i seem to have the same idea as villa, i have a, what i call my gas box, manometer l.d.f.meter caps etc, and day to day box, keeps the weight down , i have also a box with my soldering gear in,works well for me,could do with using them more often than present, i do hope things pick up.

my tool bag contains: bahco 8 and 6 in wide jaw adjustables, water pump pliers, and a baby set of rothy pump grips - great for doing the nut and cone up tight when fitting a shower. side cut pliers, pliers, long nose pliers, 3 different sized pozi drivers, 3 different sized blade drivers,pipeslices 10 - 28mm, tape measure, boat level, big level, multimeter, juinor hacksaw, hacksaw, 24 mm spanner, small socket set, 17mm ratchet spanner, olive splitters, led torch, head torch, lighter - just in case. stanley knife, stab saw. Hep cutter, oh nd stumpy philips and blade screw drivers. towel, and most importantly a roll of loo paper!

right, got the 17mm in the spanner kit and i have the 22/15 nut spanner

the 24 mm fits a 15mm comp nut, the comp nut has a O/D of 24mm, this spanner has a long shank so great for undoing comp fitting that have been on for a long time. the 17mm ratcheting spanner is useful for doing up the nuts in a basin fixing kit, i always hang my basins with a fischer bolt fixing kit and was always a PITA to do up the bolts took forever, till i came across the ratcheting spanner, its my trade secret on my site!!

i have been looking for a stubby adjustable with wide jaws 38mm +,but only come across ones that are 8inch, no doubt some body will point me in the right direction.
