He said (the 'plumber') it was totally un-necessary to replace 30 year old H/C pipes, soldered with Yorkshire fittings, in a bathroom in a property that was previously empty for 6 months+ because it would 'take too long and cost the customer too much'. Even though all the boards are already lifted and the pipes are right there all notched in.
Stated I could re-pipe it in under an hour with about 20 quids worth of copper. That's why I mentioned it in the email.

Me undermining his credibility and work is just the beginning for that fella :)

Sounds like you ought to buy that man a drink and talk about staying in contact re non payers & bad customers mate.
Yeah he's a sound bloke. Said hello to him in the merchants a few times but nothing more. Quite flattered really. Spoke to him on the phone for quite a while. Said it's probably because I look young and people instantly assume i'm 'learning' (i'm actually 31 but look about 25 but been doing heating for ~10 years). Said he used to get it quite a bit when he was younger. I liked the honesty!

Only time I ever saw 22mm to radiators was on council housing from the 70s where the glass fronted solid fuel fires worked on gravity. So the bathroom bloke has either saw a lot of those jobs & assumed that was proper, or as has been already mentioned, been reading an old heating book.
Bet he is just a Diyer builder/plumber/bluffer type and has been a bit of a knowitall talking big and it has backfired on him.

Bas tar ds probably looking for some of your 3.5k to pay the bathroom retard.
Find out where he drinks and knock fu ck out the cant.

Absolutely love your style Tamz.

I bet Croppie checked to see if this was in the 'Arms' - just to make sure he didn't have to give you a warning.

What a @osser , can we start a clever 'get your own back' section to pay back guys like this.

I did speak to a sound guy at Vaillant earlier called Ian Baker who said he'd get on it and I think he may have spoken to the technical team.

The customer got an email back from Vaillant today.....

FYI - From Vaillant:

Thank you for your email.

We have looked at your email and our technical officer has also spoken to you this morning. Based on this information we believe the installer to have been thorough in his calculations and we cannot see that you will have any problems. However if you still have concerns then you need to contact the installer as Vaillant do not carry out installation work.

Regards

Vaillant Technical

My customer also apologised and admitted there has been a mixup but also did say the guy on the phone at Vaillant said the 22mm to the living room could be longer (22mm to outside living room, 2 rads off 22mm, max 15mm run about 2.5 metres!!) but i'll let that go because I can't be bothered to argue it anymore.

So now i'm thinking about how to continue. I have his paperwork, controls, trvs etc. Think i'm going to outright ask for at least 80-90% of the cash now to continue.

PS. And no mention of the outright lies from his plumber, who works for his company!!!

The plot thickens .........

So he employs a plumber and he still got you in to do everything?

If that was me I would of got his bloke to do the rads and then get you in to do the boiler and gas. Unless he doesn't trust his bloke.

Well he's primarily a bathroom fitter/general plumber. Bloody good job he didn't do the central heating!!

Just spoke to customer again; he's agreed to pay me £4k now so all is well for now.

Haven't forgotten about that bellend plumber though! :)

What about the other grand?!

What about the other grand?!

To be quite honest the fact that he's happy to pay the rest is a good sign, I wouldn't and don't think anybody should ask for 100% before the job is complete.

What I think is a lot of the time customers are very wary and sometimes quite rightly so and all it takes is 1 muppet who thinks they know better but actually knows sweet FA to put a doubt in their mind, by the looks of things this has been dealt with the customers mind has been put at ease and the other bloke looks like a fool, so don't play into his hands and turn yourself into the muppet.

You've handled this situation well. Take Tamz advice regarding the other C u next Tuesday. Don't get caught!

Call out from a pay phone kick his teeth out and snap his fingers one at a time using 17mm ring spanner

Problem with a 17 is you'd only get the one finger as it'd be stuck after.

Just got a Facebook message from the chippie on the job (funnily enough the only other decent tradesman on the job, got on with him well!). Says the 'plumber' and the 'builder' (who is also a massive bellend, by the way, and also works for the customers company....) have been slagging me off all day saying my work is bad. Obviously it doesn't matter too much now as customer is clearly satisfied, but still.

The reason i've asked for this 4k is that I believe there is a very real risk of my work being sabotaged in that property by either of these 2 men. At least if that happens I have all my materials covered. That's my thinking.

I find it surprising that there are so many baseball teams about............without any baseballs....
