Hi All,
We want to replace vented with unvented cylinder but cannot find any decent plumber in North West London to carry out the works.
Every plumber I have called doesn't even bother to check water pressure or even flow rates. Not even British gas.
Not sure what to do now.
Currently have...
Hi, 1st fixing a house. Im looking at the blow valve for an unvented cylinder There's no external wall near the hotpress so I'm gonna run a waste pipe under the floor. It'll have a tundish so they can see if it's discharging.
What I'm wondering is if I can then tee that waste in with the pipe...
I've just bought a Victorian house that needs renovation. Currently there is a boiler and hot water tank in the cellar, and tanks in the loft.
I'd like to have an unvented cylinder installed in the cellar, but the plumber I got in said that it needs to have access to an open drain.
There is a...
Recently had a new heating and hot water system retrofitted in a domestic property. Previous hot water system was gravity fed with a vented cylinder. New system as shown in the photos. Installer commissioned system about 3 months ago and all was working fine.
There have since been two faults...

I live in a shared building with a flat above me. My upstairs neighbour has just fitted an unvented hot water cylinder. The plumber has run the 22mm copper discharge pipe into the old plastic Marley hopper and downpipe, which discharges straight into the sewer. This downpipe also carries...
Hi,
I have an unvented cylinder and lately even without the boiler central heating or hot water ‘on’, the system sounds like it’s constantly ‘on’. All through the night, it used to be silent except when running, but now it can sound like it’s ‘on’ constantly for days at a time. Surely this...
Good Afternoon All,
This is my first time on the renewables forum so please forgive my ignorance. I've been interested in ASHPs for about 15 years but have always doubted their economic viability - especially for retrofits. Now that there will be no gas connected to new builds in 4 years I am...
Hi all,
Just getting my head in a twist regarding the 3-tee rule (last tee on the return pipe should be hot water).
I have a customer with an unvented installation, with two 2-port valves for CH and HW. He's built an extension, and wants to add a new circuit of radiators to the system. The new...
Hi guys
I've done my G3 in December as I needed to fit an unvented cylinder in a restaurant.
I said to the client to notify BC about the installation.
The restaurant is new so BC came around a couple of times for inspection. I said to the owner that they will have to give him the certificate...
Hello
Would you recommend a vented or unvented cylinder? I have an indirect vented system at the moment. The flow rate from the upstairs taps is low.
We are having solar thermal installed and thus the cylinder will be changed. We can have a new vented or unvented cylinder installed.
What...
Hi
The gas boiler is getting old and so at some point will need to be replaced and I am trying to calculate what size it needs to be for best efficiency.
The system is zoned with Zone 1 being 15KW of radiators, Zone 2 being 10KW of radiators, Zone 3 being a Centerstore Solar 300L unvented hot...
Hi Lads/lasses just wanted some advice on unvented cylinder inspection. I just took on what seems to be a contract for a block of flats all with direct heating via immersion. The way they have been installed seems a bit off as there is no check valve on the supply to the cylinder. It goes,
Stop...
Hi guys
I am having my current cylinder replaced with a World Heat superflow indirect cylinde as im upgrading to solar thermal via a grant. I asked the supplier if they are replacing the immersion heating thermostat and the thermostat thats connects to the boiler and I was told if I want that...
Hi,
I'm an Electrician by trade. I've just moved into a New Build flat, where there is no Gas. I have a water cylinder named ThermaQ Evocyl that has two immersion heaters. When I moved in they told me to keep the bottom immersion on all the time and use the top immersion if I needed more hot...
Hi, Looking at getting a new boiler with an unvented cylinder fitted. Our current system is an old gravity fed. Flow rate is 20l with a 1.5 bar. Its a 4 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and 9 rads with an additional 3 rooms in the loft sometime in the future . Our first floor bathroom is very...
hi G3 qualified but unsure how to join the private forum. Just didn’t want to post in the public forum.
santon 210 indirect with low pressure at the outlets and a banging noise.
Changed the combination valve which sorted the pressure drop issue but the noise persists.
Static pressure is 4.5...
HI guys
We currently have an Glowworm Ultracom 38CXI. It currently serves 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, one with an electric shower, the other with a thermostatic shower mixer. Our house has 17 radiators (it is a fairly large house). We are planning to add an extension to the house, it will be a...
Hi all,
Looking to convert combi boiler to system boiler with an unvented cylinder.
What models do people reccomend for controls/thermostats?
The way we use the house we dont really need a smart one, my mother who lives in the property is elderly so want it to be easy to use.
I am thinking...
This is my first post on the forum... but I've been around a while, lurking. Hello!
I'm hoping someone can advise me with a question about unvented cylinders. I'm told they must be connected to the mains and can't be gravity fed, but I'm having trouble understanding why... if the pressure and...
