I see Sven Eriksson has given an interview a couple days ago to a Swedish newspaper re his former girlfriend Nancy dating Camillas brother.
In it he has said that "she was never going to go out with a plumber."
Don't you just love working in one of the apparently - lowest, boring, unsexy jobs?

True that she may not but I bet she called in a trade when she needed a seeing too and a bit of rough

My friends look down on me for doing this and not university

One in particular made an issue out of it to belittle me to our friends!

now he's finished uni, left with 50ish K of debt and his 140k a year job is not there!!

i make the point of having him serve me at dominos.

Ain't life a pig

Trouble is, - you are going to have to go through life without Nancy though. She doesn't want plumbers, sorry to break it to you.

Oh dear. If a plumber is the lowest of the low, what does that make me? Subterranean, presumably! :)

Tee hee.

a man in a bar was talking about his three sons,

he was explains how proud he was that one had gone to law school graduated top of his class and is now a high flying lawyer, whilst another was a trainee doctor specialising in brain surgery soon to become a leading expert.

he then paused for a few moments to sip his drink, when someone asked, and your third son???

"ah yes he is a plumber..... Someone had to pay for the other twos education".....

Ive been training for 4 years lol and could have gone to uni.
My site manager has 2 degrees.
1 for talking at you and 1 for being a bell-end.

Never met such a square peg in a round hole
:)

Had the same with a neighbour of mine a couple of years back, always slagging me off for doing a manual job!
he had a fancy private education and went from failed business to failed business. I slagged him off for tossing about.
Then the t..t baught a small coffee company with a name of a Lewis carol character in the title and had world copyright.
Sold the wording to Disney for a fortune.

im not bitter!!!

I couldn't do uni would drive me mad. When my mould was formed I was designed to work with my hands,

the wife did the whole uni thing I went and visited in her first year couldn't stand half the morons she introduced me too. Just seemed like a place for people who weren't ready to grow up.

I have met allsorts in my time, including an awfully large number of people a lot less necessary than plumbers.

If you challenge me to get by without a design consultant, I reckon I could do fine.
Live without an exclusion outreach worker? Yep, I'm fine
Missing the services of a fashion consultant? - well, you only have to see how I dress!

Manage without plumbing? No thank you...

Point well made ray

without making the job sound more important than it is

plumbing systems in general are listed as one of the top contributors to the reduction in wide spread disease and infection. FACT

Ray, - that makes me feel wanted once more! Almost brings a tear to the eye.

Just to keep it in balance, I would like to show my appreciation to the sparky whose installation of some extra sockets in my study made this post possible!

:)

You'll always get people that look down on plumber and any trade for that matter.

I love it when I work in people's homes and they talk rubbish to me, one women the other day starting saying that she never knew how I could work for probably about 25k a year and she couldn't drag herself out of bed for less than 800 quid a week.

The fact her house was in one of the less wealthy parts of birmingham, probably meant she had never seen 8 quid in her life, never mind 800 quid a week :)

i had great pleasure in telling her I was a contractor and was looking at earning close to 60k this year nearly made her jaw hit the floor, she retreated to her living room after that and I never saw until I handed her the paperwork at the end and she didn't say much then :)

i dont mind someone looking down on me when I'm working in their home, at then end of the day I know what I earn and I know the lifestyle I lead, so sod em :)

In my experience it the people with a nice car and a house in a nice part of town that have the least money. I've worked in many a house in the posh areas of town and they blatantly haven't the money to live there.

All show and no dough, as my dad would say

Sod em all, I say :)

Had a similar conversation/argument the over day. My girlfriend, who does a bit of photography and her sister, who teaches hynobirthing were arguing about at the weekend about how important and better their jobs were. This went one for about 10 minutes until I finally got fed up with it, I replied with ' I provide people with fresh water' or something along those lines. Neither of them knew what to say after that and they quickly stopped.

over 80% of all cars are on the never never/loans, so I am happy to be in the other 20% all down to plumbing

I can't understand why you would look down on anyone based on what they do for a living.

If you pay your own way in the world, I don't care how you do it. Shovel **** for a living - its more respectable than what I do! :)

And if life has dealt you a genuinely bad set of cards, and you can't work, thats fine too.

My opprobrium is reserved for those who COULD work, but choose not to. No time for them at all.

You know I'm thinking back over the years and I don't think I've ever had anyone look down on me for what I do. I've been called the help and asked to use the trades entrance please don't park the van on the drive. But no one has every judged me or at least not to my knowledge.

we are all worker ants living in a colognes and we all have a job to do

ive be only ever had one or two that have genuinely looked down on me, but I've had loads of customers who their "it"

these are worst customers I find I have to deal with and they are usually the ones who are in debt up to their eyeballs and can't afford any upgrade work they might need.

I would gladly disconnect these people's flues and leave the boiler running :)

It's the remarks in day to day life that you suddenly hear that annoy me.
The usual one is typically something like this - " if little Johnny doesn't start working harder at school and getting educated, then I am worried all he can be is a plumber!"

My age group have no understanding of skilled work.
all they know is qualifications.
to them its gcse's, a levels or uni degrees!

Plumbers are the most important people on earth. Without fresh water people die.
Think about it......we deserve MORE than bankers.

Right have a plan for world domination ....5 july ...we turn off every water tap we can find ( in the roads etc )and bung every drain (balloon them ? )..and plug of all gas at meters....
Soon have world on its knees
Think it will work ???? ;)
:)
