Hi

I'm a reporter with BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat - I'm doing a story next week about copper theft - particularly pipes and wire from vans.

I'm looking to speak to an electrician or a plumber who's been a victim of this.

If you think you'd be up for talking to us - you can email me at [email protected] or give me a call on 0207 765 4649.

Thanks
Jim

everytime I go to a merchant to buy copper tube it feels like Ive been mugged, never leave any on the van as it doubles the value of the van and makes it worth nicking!!!

Just what we need. Some story on wireless 1 filling the neds heads with how much scrap value the copper in a plumbers van has.

" I never thought of that one Dave. Lets rob the plumbers van. They're rolling in it anyway"

Might as well mention church roofs too. Stripping lead is a dying art 🙄

Did cross my mine, especially radio 1,have a large section or audience made for it,if they are having trouble finding tradesmen now, they won't a few days after broadcast

As I mentioned my pipe carrier was smashed open a few weeks ago, wonder if there was a radio 1 road show near by at the time 🙁

Aren't we missing a trick here?

Yes. I've had my copper nicked. Put me on the radio to 6 million listeners and mention my name, website, mobile number and locality. And how that copper was going to fund my sick mother's medicine money.

A decent investigative reporter would be on a pikey caravan site buying a dag!!!!!!!!

Metal theft is a huge problem.
It's not only plumbing tube.
My work is in tube inspection ... Mostly copper tube, and copper-nickel tube for marine use.
All metal processing companies are regularly being blagged for some very large sums.
Security is a big issue.
Guess what ... The Plod doesn't appear all that interested.

If I went and robbed a building society of 200 pounds, they'd soon be on to me.
Companies I know are getting hit for thousands and getting very little help.

KME-Yorkshire recently had one of their trucks on the continent held up at gun-point and driven off.

Truck was recovered, but the load was never seen again !!
