Hi guys,

replaced a 3 port valve for a customer. Made sure i put the correct wires in same place. Guy who originally installed system must have new he cocked up as he left some instruction saying that hw has to be on constant all the time for everything to work

heres what o know

i can get hw only
i can get hw and heating
i cant get heating only. When heating only is selected and room stat operated, 3 port valve moves but does start up boiler or pump

any help much appreciated

Get someone in who understands heating wiring, or go on a Honeywell wiring course and learn it yourself. Looks like you need to go back start. You need the wiring diagram to trace where each wire has been installed. Some of them are easy, such as the green/yellows all go to the same terminal 3 and the blues all go to the same terminal 2. That leaves you with a brown, orange and grey. Brown = central heating on terminal 5. Orange= heating only terminal 7. Grey= Hot water off terminal 8.

Who ever has done it mate has messed it up. All the earths have been snipped and nothing is in right order. I have y plan wiring diagrams but as nothing is on order, it makes no sense. I could take i all apart and start again but i dont think cudtard will pay for that

If they want it working the customer has little choice.

If it's working the same as B4 and they don't want to get it sorted so it's working as it should, get your money put on invoice what fault is and walk out..

When I first joined a firm last year one of the guys called in sick so I got one of his jobs - to go and swap two diverter valves (if i remember right) I hadn't really been out on my own much and but knew if I was just draining down and straight swapping I could handle it - just about. Turns out it wasn't straight swaps at all just the manager (clown) lied to me just to get me out the office and get the job done. (didn't like it when I phoned him later for help either). Not that i'm bitter :D

Back to OP after putting the new valves in I was getting similar to what you are saying the valves were moving over but boiler wouldn't fire up. The wiring was a mess all crammed in to junction boxes that were just about in one piece. I couldn't figure it out as I don't know much on the wiring side the boss had to come out and he sussed it in 5 mins with a multimeter. I'm sure it was one wire needed putting somewhere else then it fired up. I'd go with the advice on here - start again from scratch with a wiring diagram otherwise how do you know what's going on - unless you know what is what and are good with a multimeter you could be there all day.

Even I've managed wiring up a whole system using wiring guides lol. The other lads used to say it can be easier wiring up full system from scratch rather than figure out what some other idiot has been doing.

Sounds like s/l for ch missing! If earths are all cut back they need re instating ! DO NOT just leave them. Ur last in so make sure it's safe before u leave.

(Hw not ch)

Check for a hw off at the clock and a sat wire from the cylinder stat.
Basically the programmer should have l,n hw off, hw on, ch on and the cyl stat common, call and sat (or C 1 and 2 depending on the make).

That makes sense.
