Honestly there are few people these days who are so busy that they're regularly turning away £200 worth of work a day. Those in that fortunate position would be busy because they've been at it a while and are good running their business. As such they'd have taken on an apprentice as their work load increased.

Your only hope is to either sub for cheaper than a PAYE employee would cost or find a job.

I will be, but using all my options.

I am quite surprised at the animosity towards people getting in the trade.

Why is it that everybody is stealing your work, undercutting you and making a mockery of the system yet when somebody wants to offer you there services you don't want to take it up.

Think about it, you are still paying the advertising, the same amount of diesel, the same amount of everything, but you can take on some of those jobs you never want to take on like toilets or bath taps i.e. get paid for it and have no other outlay.

There would be no diesel costs, no flux, solder, gas bottles or anything of the such. so you could charge £150-£200 a day for my services and pay me £100 per day.

If you took on an apprentice for £20 per day you have to pay fuel to pick him/ her up, pay for the extra materials when they mess up, spend time teaching them and then spend time fixing their mistakes.

There is no animosity and it's not the way to go using the 'worlds against me'. They're are fully qualified plumbers out there working for less than that.

You offered your services and people have replied with honesty. They have simply expressed their belief that you are selling your services at too high a price, something to which I agree.

some big words there for a sunday simon , very deep too. you ok mate

when I get taken out on a day rate with the company i sub to, they pay me £100 a day, I pay my plumbers mate £40 a day when hes out with me when I'm subbing.

I'm a GSR Engineer with my own van, £100 a day is not ideal when I take away tax and the £10-15 diesel and traveling time, but there is not much out there.

these were examples of people earning £100 a day and above.
Wet Plumbers jobs are being advertised for similar prices

Why didn't you put these up

IMO you are lucky if you can get £40 a day

Animosity = people having a go at me for being realistic about what i want, because they don't agree with it.

I offered my services, not opened the thread up to people to have a go at me, I asked if anybody had work instead i was met with rudeness and people disagreeing with what i want.

if you do not have a job vacancy then why reply?

Sorry jase but I think you're being unrealistic. £100 a day is approx £25000 a year, I could employ someone with all their tickets & quals for that.

I wish you luck anyway

I did, the first 2 were wet plumbers jobs, but the links didnt work properly.

Firstly thats below minimum wage and secondly I can not survive on £40 a day.

Thats £800 a month, my rent is £650 a month, so £150 for diesel, food, electric, Gas, Phone, and so on and so on.

Now my mind really is made up, every one on here moans that there is no work, that work is being robbed off of them, but they have been doing it for 100 years, they should win all the work, i.e.

But yet you are all on here moaning to your hearts content, get a life, grow up and get on with life rather then moaning all the time. All the time spent on here could be spent winning new customers or even with your partners/ wifes/ husbands.

Thank you, but look at the bigger picture, £25,000 in my pocket is £12,500 to £25,000 a year extra in your pocket.

No offence jase but you are coming across as having a massive chip on your shoulder. You will probably shoot me down for saying that but it my honest opinion . Also there are hundreds of people with your skills and qualifications who would do what you are offering for half of what you are asking, especially in London! Also to say you would go self employed but can't be arsed to do the paperwork is truly laughable, don't exactly show you in the best light to any potential employers!! Ridiculous comment that makes a mockery of people who do take the time to do it and still make time for their families. If you can't be bothered to do paperwork can you be bothered to tidy up after yourself or be bothered to protect the customers property sufficiently?! Bad post IMHO

I replied because I wanted to. Just as you posted because you wanted to. After all it is a public forum.

Who was rude? Yet again the toys are out the pram because you didn't get the reply you wanted.

I was trying to politely tell you to wake up and smell the coffee.

I wish you good luck, because with your attitude your gonna need it!

You honestly think we actually earn 50k? Some training centre has really filled you full of it

true I do have a chip on my shoulder because every time I post on here I get absolutely shot down and ripped for no reason, I am extremely suprised that not one person has realised that the £100 was a negotiation price as I thought if somebody was interested we could negotiate instead I have been shot right down and made to feel like a useless piece of turd.
I never asked if any body had any opinions, simply asked if anybody had a job.

Secondly
I never said "can't be bothered" I said that I did not want to do Admin.
This isn't paper work, I am brilliant at paper work, I just can't do the collecting money from non-paying customers, dealing with complaints and doing quotes without being way off the mark. Not because I cant be bothered but because I look very young and I do not get taken seriously and I get treated like a mug because I am too soft, there is only so much you can learn in books and at college a work place attitude is only learnt from being on site.

My best bet is Agency work, 9am to 5pm work.
Went to agency the other day they had a job £10 an hour for 40 hours a week, as an electricians mate, something I know nothing about.

I got about 4 quotes for simply replacing my combi with a new one, and the best quote was 2000.
The parts were only just over 1000, so I paid about 900 labour for a couple of blokes to fit the boiler.
They started at 8am, and 7 hours later the job was done.
So that is 450/day labour / person
2000 per week if they keep it up
So based on that job, its 100k per year.

British gas quoted 3400 for the job, and the other quotes I got were all well over 2k.
When I told them the parts were no more than 1100 max, they said there was other work involved, and estimated 1 day for 2 people. Installation couldnt have been simpler. Just a boiler and some in line water conditioners.

So based on this, I recon a plumber could reach 50k per year very easily.

A good start for negotiating would of been offering to pay a plumber to take you

You have been a member long enough to know how many we get comin on here offering their time for free

if only we all had work every single day.

Can you please tell me how I am going to eat and drive to work every day?
How would I pay a plumber with no money coming in?
And all the other prople on here have only just completed level 2 NVQ or Tech Cert and looking for training, I am not asking for training, what I am asking for is experience.

Agree with Simon . If you wanted to negotiate you could have asked for a trial period, your post came across as you being 'willing' to work for 100 a day, if i got offered 100 a day I would walk over hot coals for the chance, but I would never fish for work asking for 100 a day. And in reply to earlier person saying about could easily reach 100k you are right, IF THE WORK WAS THERE!

Get a part time job. Sacrifice everything and work so incredibly hard that it will pay off. And all perspective employers will recognise how hard you have tried and you may have more chance of getting a job

Plumbing is more about who you know and when your working as one and meeting the right people. You never know

I work as many hours as I can and socialise in the right circles. Hopefully I will make it one day

Your just babbling now

I aint babbling, I know that there isn't work every day, I know that work is hard to come by and people spend a lot of money and time getting it and put a lot of effort in to what they do, but i never asked for a job 5 days a week.
