Hi everyone just a quick question does anyone know of courses for plumbers to attend regarding wiring of heating systems (s plans and y plans ) I know honeywell do run one on heating controls but is there anyone elese out there so please get back to me thanks

bpec run a 2 day "Electricity for Plumbers" course, i did it recently, it is very interesting, measuring resistance on different controls, basic electrical design and theory, "s" & "y" plan wiring and fault finding

where did you do the course kirk ? and was it worth the money ? There is an advanced electrical course at Cardonald which is around £600 its "E1, E4 + E5" Combi Boiler Electrics and Advanced Fault Finding course which is £600, you get a CITB certificate on completion of the course. Seems a bit pricey though

my electrics course's took me 4and a 1/2 years and i did not cover heating controls? :( That course you did Kirk sound interesting, is there a bpec code for it so we can look it up?

If you've got basic electric knowledge, Danfoss do a decent day course. Theory & practical wiring up S & Y plans.

i did the course at Clydebank college, so that i could run it at our centre, in the process of getting accreditation at the moment, dont think clydebank will be running any more till september as they will be shut for the summer break, hopefully i will be running it by then so i will give you all a good price for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
search on bpec website for "ELECTRICITY FOR PLUMBERS" to see where it is being run throughout the country, the course started with a basic overview of how electrics work, not too intense but interesting, then on to checking pumps, fans, gas valves stats etc for resistance, ideal for fault finding, then onto wiring an s and y plan from scratch on a working system, also identifying cable and wire as part of the assessment, all in all i enjoyed it and found it worthwhile and i have been doing wiring for years
